Chapter 6

(Brian’s POV)

Leigh and I were going to the house of music, mainly to disscuss more wedding plans but also to show her a place that has always been beautiful to me. We got there and Mel greeted us warmly.

“Welcome, its great to have you here” Harmony said cheesily before AJ and her went off somewhere, they were cute.

“Hello Melody” I said and leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek. She was suprised but welcomed the gesture. She took us an a tour of the grounds and Leigh was very impressed with the abundance of gardens and the overall beauty of the mansion. A delightful housekeeper named Maggi brought us lunch and her and Leigh began talking about a nearby boutique that Leigh got her handbag at. After lunch Leigh left with Maggi to take a small shopping trip and she gave me permission to work out some wedding things w/o her consoltion. Melody led me to a far garden that mainly consisted of roses of many colors. There was a small wood deck enclosed by flowers were we sat. we picked up where daylight cut us off and I felt myself begging to get very intrigued by this, girl. She was five years younger than me but she had experienced a lot and she seemed older than me in her levels of maturity. I was fascinated by the way she talked and the gestures she made with her hands as she talked. She had a semi-strong accent that most people who grew up in Georgia did but she spoke as if she did not like her accent and was trying to shake it. She was telling me about a story when her and Harmony were lost in the English maze on the grounds and how she still does not know the way through to this day because she has been to scared to try it again. I laughed

“Do you think it is funny that I could be so traumatized?” she asked defensively

“I’m sorry I just saw you as someone who could concur all her fears”

“I can!” she proclaimed.

“Well than prove it” I challenged.

“You mean go into the maze?” she asked sheepishly

“Come on I’ll go with you, we’ll find our way out together…unless you are still too scared”

“It’s not that I’m scared I -“

“-You don’t trust it? Or you don’t trust me?”

“I trust you but-“

“-than lets go “ I said and helped her up before she could respond.

“Brian I don’t think this is a good idea, that maze is confuziling”

“We can do it.” I led her to the maze and entered quickly and turned left at the first bend so it looked as though we were deep into the maze. She continued to plead not to go deep into the center but I continued to take turns alternating left and right not really keeping track and she had to follow me if she did not want to end up apart. I stopped in what obviously was the middle and let her catch her breath.

“Now we are stuck and will have to work together if we want to get out.” I said

“Brian this was really mean, I should have left you in here to get lost by yourself.” She said pathetically.

“Oh come on, we can do it,” I encouraged and I took her hand and started leading her farther through the maze. I soon found out my pattern of left and right turns was not so effective in the second half of the maze and even I was scared at the prospect of being stuck in the maze if it got too late. I did not want her to know of my insecurities but I knew she sensed it and held my hand tighter

(Melody’s POV)

I was scared, I had a very pathetic fear of things I did not understand and the fact that this thing existed in the first place made it confusing. If it wasn’t for Brian I probably would of just sat there screaming until someone found me. I needed to get out of here quick though and set to find the secret exit.

“I think that I remember my father saying something about it being easy to escape if you follow a pattern like in music. What is the only thing we can count on in music.” I thought aloud.

“Besides Beauty, Rhythm, and Beats what else is there?” he asked.

“Melody!” I exclaimed lightly hitting him for forgetting the very thing I was named after.

“how does that help us?” He asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe we should just stay still and listen for a melody. Fate is bound to get us home.” I decided. So we sat and waited for some sign. About 10 min. later we got one. A bird had flown right by us and went off to the left then right, left, left, left, right, left. We recited its path and followed it eagerly and happily. Miracles like that only happened in the movies and the House of Music. I was so giddy. He had been right we would of done it. As we exited the maze I was so happy I jumped into his arms. He smiled warmly.

“ I told you so.” he joked. I couldn’t help but also laugh. I felt so invincible to be able to finally overcome that scary maze. It was as if with Bri I could face all my fears. The weird thing was after we had our excited embrace the world around seemed different. Very different. Something unnoticed before by either of us; that’s when we heard the sirens. The smiles faded and worry replaced it. We were quickly bombarded with people, servants that I had known all my life were frantically asking me 20 questions. The world was a daze. Then as quick as it hit I was in the in maze again except lost and alone. No Brian, no bird; just darkness and the intricately cut bushes. Somehow I had gotten stuck in their. And without Brian it wouldn’t be so kind as to let me escape. I needed Brian for that. Then I heard him and Harmony too, calling out my name although neither were around. That’s when I awoke to see two very frightened people looming above me. Harmony and Brian. They looked sad and I thought I noticed tears falling down harmony’s face.

“Where am I?”I finally got the courage to ask.

“We are at a hospital Mel, something has happened to Daddy.” Harmony explained.

“But I was just in a maze.” I argued.

“Melody, you passed out shortly after we got out of it. I’m sorry I didn’t know you were that shaken.” Brian said. I was left speechless. It wasn’t a dream. I looked around and became very worried.

“What’s wrong with Daddy?” I asked.

“His heart just stopped ticking.” Harmony said tears swelling up in her eyes.

Brian took my hand as I sat up and realized I was in a waiting room. The House of Music was a magical place but I guess even some places aren’t magical enough to keep the dying to becoming dead. (AJ’s POV) Harmony soon left her sisters side and stood by me. We had just been waiting here because Melody had passed out but none of us felt like leaving yet. I didn’t know how to react, I hadn’t really known him. He was just the man of Music to me and losing him felt like losing a lot although I know the girls would fill his shoes nicely. Harmony and I just sat here. I took her hand but she pulled me into a hug and began to cry. I just held her and wished I could help. I started to hum “I’ll never break your heart” and it put her to sleep in my arms. I walked over to Brian and Mel and suggested that we leave. They were more than willing. That evening in between naps from Harmony we all talked about our memories of the Old man of Music.
