Chapter Eight

Alyssa made her way through the doubled glass doors of FreeLance Entertainment. The Orlando streets were scattered with an occasional person. But rather empty for the time of morning. Her dark hair framed her face, gentle curls cascading around her cheeks, aqua eyes dancing with delightment, and fear. As they always seemed to be. Black Capri pants outlined her tiny figure. A pale yellow spaghetti strap brightening the ensemble. Her eyes searched the areas surrounding her.

"Alyssa!" She heard her name called from the corner of the office, when she took note of Lances blond hair, and standing shadow. She approached him and smiled.

"Glad you came. Now, last night I was on a mad search. I found about 2 dozen songs, that I liked, and know you could sing the heck out of. I want you to look over them, and we can come up with something for your first single. I was thinking something fast, so you could possibly dance a little." He explained as she nodded her head. He handed her a stack full of vanilla folders. Her slender fingers held them tight as she read each lyric, and noted the music. Lance watched as she set certain ones aside, before continuing to look. The silence was interrupted by the shrill of the phone, as Lance excused himself, to answer it.

"Uh-huh. Sounds wonderful. Thank you so much, really. Ok, bye," Lance returned hanging up the cordless phone, returning it to its cradle.

"Who was it?" Alyssa asked, never removing her eyes from the papers she held in her hands.

"Oh no one important, now any decisions?" He wondered, standing behind her shoulder.

"I like this one, a lot. It is so me, and I know this is the one. I just know it is." She answered holding up a vanilla envelope, familiar to the others, only with a different label.

"You sure?"

"Positive," She told him.

"OK, great, Absolutely wonderful. I do remember this one, I think it will make an awesome song," He smiled, as she shuffled her feet, staring at the ground. "So, now that that's all taken care of, what do you say we clarify some things OK?" He asked. Alyssa nodded, and took a seat across from Lance at his desk.

"So what is it, that we need to clarify?" She laughed, fingering the tips of her chocolate locks.

"Well, I have arranged a lot of things. We first want to record the single. That is the most important thing as of now. Then, we need to get you a choreographer, and some back up dancers,"

"Dancers? Are they really necessary? I don't know if I will do to well to start off with. Dancers are for the big people," Alyssa said, knitting her eyebrows, and biting her lip in concentration.

"Yes, they are. You are a single act, a solo artist. And in order for your performance to be more entertaining visually you need dancers. There is no way you cant have them," Lance explained. Alyssa nodded in agreement. "Then," Lance started again. "We need to work on your stage presence, and techniques. Like how to hold the microphone, breath support, excetera."

"I am pretty sure I can handle holding a microphone," Alyssa told him, giggling a little.

"I am sure you can to. And that's what I thought when we first started. Until it flew out of my hand at rehearsal. Plus, you wont only be dealing with hand held mics, but headset mics as well," Her eyes were locked on him, as he explained everything, urging him to go on. "And last, after all your training, we want to release a video to MTV. Which by then your single will have already hit the air waves. And MTV will give you a lot of exposure, which is what is going to make you, or brake you. And then, after all that you are signed to be one of *N SYNC's opening acts for the upcoming tour. In 3 months," Lance explained, as he watched Alyssa's relaxed, yet intent figure perk up.

"*N SYNC tour? You are so out of your mind!" She laughed.

"No, I am not. Just trust me, it is going o be great," He reassured. "Now what do you say we step inside the recording studio and practice on your new song," He asked, as Alyssa followed him upstairs to a glassed in area. "Now, I just want you to warm up our voice some. Get everything out of your throat," Lance instructed as Alyssa cleared her throat and allowed a sweet sound to come out of her rose colored lips.

"La, La, La, La ,La" She sang, each time sounding better and better, as her voice lost all shakiness and resumed its normal innocent, and perfect pitched song.

"Can I stay for the encore presentation?" A voice interrupted Alyssa's singing, as two large arms encircled her waist. Alyssa flinched at the touch, and grew tense when she saw Justin standing behind her, beaming. She felt his warm breath brush her neck, sending a thousands sensations, and chills to course through her body. Nervously she pulled away, giving an uneasy smile.

"Uh- I was just practicing, we uh picked out my first single," She answered, shying away,as far from Justin as possible, without being obvious.

"Oh, sounds great. I just stopped by to see you really quick. And wanted to know if you guys wanted to get some lunch later on?" He asked.

"Sure. Are you gonna hang out?" Lance asked, stepping up next to Justin.

"Why not? I really want to here Alyssa sing anyway," he smiled.
