Alyssa stared at her reflection in the mirror. Raggid curls fell loose from her ponytail, sticking to the sides of her face. A string of sweat rolled down her cheek, leaving a wet trail behind it. Her lips pursed together in concentration, devoting all of her attention to the steps her feet were attempting. The heat of the room boiled her thoughts,as she struggled to maintain focus. She smiled thankfully as the song ended, and another didnt start immediatly after.
"That was great guys," Wade's voice circulated through the large room, as he eyed each of the 10 dancers and then Alyssa. "I want you all to conentrate on what you're doing, and not Alyssa. Make sure you're always aware of her staging and work from that, but dont be to caught up in her dancing and not your own. " His instructions were simple as everyone nodded thier head. The auditions had been going on for three days, and they were cut down to the final 10, at which the final 4 would come from.
"I wanna try it again, and then you guys can split for lunch, when you come back I will most likley have the final list ready for you. So on this last dance I want you to really put your best into it, because this is the last time I'll see a lot of you," He said before starting the music. You could see everyone's nerves build, as they positioned themselves for another run.
"Alyssa," She turned sharply at her name, looking straight ahead at Wade.
"Huh?"
"I just wanted to compliment you. You have really been working hard, and it really shows to the people auditioning,"
"Thank you, I'm very glad," She smiled, adjusting her weight to her other foot. "
And I also wanted to ask you about the dancers. I know you should be going to lunch, but I want your opinion since you're the one thats going to be working with them, not me."
"Oh, well I know you'll make the right decisions. I actually thought that the guys and I seemed to work better together. I dont know what it is, maybe because theres more appeal between us. I'm not saying for you to give me all guys, but maybe like 2 guys and 2 girls would work cool."
"Yeah, I was thiking the same thing," Wade paused for a moment to regain his thought. "I guess thats all, you can go ahead and get going ot lunch, be back in an hour."
"OK, see ya..." Alyssa's words were lost as she walked into the loud hallway.
A group of people were running down the hallway, and Lance's secretary had several files full of paper on her way to his office. She laughed under her breath continuing her way downstairs. She looked around for somebody, anybody that she knew and could grab a bite to eat with, but her luck was short. Walking outside, she attempted to tame the growling in her stomcah.
Alyssa's keys chimed under the pressure of her palm. She immediatly went up the stairs, and to her right. Going straight for the studio. Taking a quick glance inside, she made a quiet entrance, making sure not to disturb the converstaion taking place in the front of the room. She watched as Lance nodded his head looking directly at Wade. He seemed to be please, as he walked away.
"Hey Alyssa! Hes got the final list, you've got an amazing group of people working with you," Lance touched her shoulder as he walked away leaving her smiling at the thought. More and more people started filing in, readying for the final decsion. Alyssa's hair fell in tangled curls all aorund her disending ponytail. Tucking her legs neatly beneath her, she folded her hadns in her lap, as Wade started.
"Well everyone, I have the list right here. And this decision was made strictly on your ability to dance, keep up, pace of learning, and your chemistry with Alyssa when you're dancing," His right hand moved while he talked, painting out a visual picture, his other gripping the clipboard tightly. Alyssa watched closly as he read otu the simple words that could affect everyone in the rooms future.
"Ok, thank you everyone who came anyway, if you're name's not called you can go ahead and leave. The dancers for the Alyssa Taylor tour are... Daniel Walback, Erick Terran, Kaitlyn Sherrings, and Hilary Rensing," His voice held authority, as the rejected faces drained out of the studio. Alyssa swallowed the gall rising in her throat, as she double took his choices. Hilary? Overwhelming feelings of embarrasment, confusion, and pure anger dispensed all over her body.
"Alyssa!" She was pulled away from her funk, as Wade's voice was heard loud and clear through her thoughts.
"Huh?" Dumbfounded, her eyebrows rose in question. Waving her over, she stood up, shakily walking over to the crowd of people.
"Now, as I was saying. We are going to have non stop rehearsals for the next 2 weeks, to get you ready for the show. I mean late hours. I need complete dedication, and if you have any second thoughts I want you to walk out right now," Wade searched everyones face for any acknowlegment of second choices.
"But, we will also have a lot of fun. I cant wait to get to know all of you, some of you I have been lucky enough to have been aquainted with," Alyssa gave a smile to Hilary, the sarcasm dripping from her teeth. "And the others of you, its a pleasure and I congratulate all of you," Alyssa put up her most professional voice, giggling at her own attempt.
"We cant wait either Alyssa," Hilary's voice dripped with sweetness, Alyssa waiting for the catch. "We will work hard, all of us. Enough to show off our talents, yours, and perfect all you're mistakes." Wade's eyes widended with shock, as did the other at the actions being directed between the two.
"I need to go. It was lovley seeing you again HILARY, Wade thank you, and same to all you guys it truly was a pleasure..." Alysssa attempted at taming the flame burning in her eyes, reflecting the anger building up inside. Her keys cut into her hands, as she squeezed them harder, trying to release some of the stress, and feelings cornering her. Her fast pace turned into a jog out of the studio, and to her car. Passing unfamiliar faces, and questioning startes she hurried home.
