Q:There are quite a few "boybands" on the scene right now. How much credit do you think the New Kids deserve for it?
Donnie: Not as much as critics would like to give us(laughs). We weren't vocally as strong as some of the groups today. But we were definately better than others that are out right now.
Q: Which groups do you like?
Donnie: I think the most obvious groups are Backstreet and Nsync. I think both are talented.
Q: No preference?
Donnie: They both have their own flavor. As much as critics like to compare them, in my opinion it's not hard to tell them apart. I think the Backstreet Boys tend to focus more on vocals. I think they have great harmonies.
Q: Would you consider doing a reunion with your fellow New Kids to show up these other groups?
Donnie: (laughing) I don't think we'd stand a chance.
Q: But don't you feel they owe you guys some sort of recognition for paving the way for them?
Donnie: Maybe, maybe not. To a degree perhaps. But I don't know how much we paved the way for them. If anything we might have made it harder for them. The critics looked at them and said "Oh great, it's the New Kids all over again." So for a group like the Backstreet Boys to come out, having ties to us like they did, and to make it this big...it's something I respect. They've paved a few roads themselves.
