Pont-Pelletier-Bridge: the First Brunothon!

written by Prisca Campbell

(letter to the Pont-Pelletier-Bridge)

Day Four

The Kick. If you watched any of the foot races, sprint to marathon, during the Olympics, you heard about The Kick. That last burst of energy that must be perfectly time to get the runner over the finish line before the others.

How does a runner cross the finish line in a Brunothon. Is one last burst of energy needed? Does it take a will to win, a determination to push beyond personal limits? You bet!

For departure day arrived with the first signs of PBS. Post Bruno Syndrome is the let down one feels when re-entry into the every day world of laundry, bosses, classes and routine occurs. It is a form of depression and it must be fought to the bitter end!

I learned how to stave off PBS during this my first Brunothon. I learned that a support group of witty, imaginative, absolutely obsessed BruNuts can keep the PBS at bay so that one crosses the finish line laughing and full of joy.

Congratulations go to the Gold Medal Winning Lisa, who will one day be interviewed by Oprah for the great book she has translated and is featured on O's book club. So enamoured of Lisa will Oprah be that she will surprise her with a gift, a personal serenade by B. She will have earned it.

Congratulations to Jocelyne, the heart beat, steady, strong and constant. Her Gold Medal was earned for her attention to detail, imagination and desire to make all les inconnus, les etrangers, into les amis! Merci Jocelyne. Your sly wit and hospitality is cherished by all.

Congratulations to Diane, the dynamo, who sacrificed and continues to donate hours of her time to feed the insatiable appetites of the BruNuts. Not only with food, but with laugher, videotapes, cassettes and genuine kindness. Merci, Lady Di.

Congratulations to Cynthia, who adopted us all with out judgment. Young enough to be our daughter, wise enough to be our new friend. A gold medal winner all the way. Merci, a la prochain!

Congratulations to Denise, whose constant devotion to the B man, was worthy of gold without leaving home. Loin de chez toi? Never as long as you are in the company of Brunettes.

Congratulations Sandy, the long suffering Daniel Lavoie fan, who came along for the ride. You can be a Brunette without being disloyal to Daniel. After all he has received the BSA!

Merci tous la monde! Un pour tous et tous pour Bruno!
