The Party In The Park, 2000!
OH MY GOD! I’m SO breathless, hyper, over-excited, etc. it’s ridiculous! After waiting 6 hours for the BSBs to appear on Party In The Park, they finally came on and…oh wow! I really hope you guys got to see it cos it was SO amazing! Such a fun performance, you could tell they were really enjoying it! Oh, where do I start?!!
It was funny cos the two presenters on TV kept having to fill-in time before the Boys came on stage cos they were having trouble with the equipment. They had to talk for about 15 minutes…they’re real cute…called Dermot and Vernon. They ended up wittering on and on about B-Rok and AJ, and what catchy names you could call the other guys by. It was so rambly, it was funny! I could totally do that…couldn’t we all witter on for 15 minutes about the BSBs?! They started reading some facts about the Boys. Vernon said that they sold about 12 million copies of MILLENNIUM in the first week and Dermot was so shocked he stopped talking. He just kept muttering, “That’s incredible…wow…” and Vernon kept saying, “That’s over 12 MILLION copies…” It was funny!
Anyway, Elton John strutted on with his skull and crossbones earring and sat at the keyboards and they wouldn’t work properly! He was getting kinda mad and they finally fixed it, so he started singing his song. Then the Boys came striding on…oooh! They got a HUGE cheer I can tell ya. OK, I spotted Kevin’s wedding ring…it looks cool, I think it’s platinum. He looked very smooth…his hair’s grown a lot and he slicked it back. He looked great! The hair looked a bit reddy, maybe it was the lighting but it looked perfect. Brian looked adorable! His hair looked a lot blonder and it was curly so he looked like a baby angel. Nick looked VERY good, about the best I’ve seen him in a long time! Short hair, toned and tanned…and in a very cheeky mood! Howie looked just great as well… He looked like he always does but a little more tanned and very relaxed. AJ wasn’t there…Kevin explained that his granddad has just had an operation so AJ was staying with him in Florida.
They kinda did backing vocals for 2 Elton songs. It was funny cos Nick and Kev stood behind Elton on his keyboard platform and it looked like the lyrics were there cos Nick kept bending down before he sang! Plus every time they moved, the platform bounced and Elton’s mike kept hitting him in the nose! Howie stood next to the keyboards and there was this great shot of his face after Elton did a solo…he was so impressed, it was sweet!
After doing 2 Elton songs, Kev came forward and he said that cos AJ wasn’t there, Elton would sing his parts. They called him “EJ!” They did THE ONE and I WANT IT THAT WAY. It was so funny! The stage was kinda wet, it rained really heavily for about half of the Party but miraculously cleared up when the Boys came out…of course! Sisquo was on earlier and kept slipping and falling over…he was a real showman, he just kept laughing and getting up. Anyway, Nick did some weird spin move during THE ONE and fell over. Brian couldn’t sing his line for giggling and Nick just laughed and went to sit on the edge of the stage for a chorus. He got up real quick when he realised it was wet…he had a real wet patch on his bum. He thought that was hilarious and kept wriggling his bum at Elton! Not advisable when you think of Elton’s sexual preferences but hey…!
It was SO great…it really was. I haven’t seen them perform live in this country for over 2 years so it was a long time coming! Elton was funny too…he kept missing his lines for I WANT IT THAT WAY. At one moment, he was by Nick and he sang “I want it that…what?” And Nick leaned over and sang “WAY!” And then Brian did this high bit on THE ONE and Elton gave him such a funny look and patted his shoulder. That set Brian off into giggles and he barely finished the note. Oh, I totally enjoyed it! I’m gonna go watch it all over again on my video and then have a hot drink to calm down!!
