Time Flies

Listen to Time Flies on Soundcloud here

1. When I was young I saw them, 1963
In a black and white world music coloured me.
All those bands are gone now, washed away with youth,
My kids are growing with songs their own to tell a simple truth
I see the generations in their eyes, and how time flies.

2.It was a fine spring evening I heard my father died,
And as I flew 6000 miles I felt him by my side;
He said "all the chains are gone now, I've pierced the veil of time,
I never believed in love so free, but now I've crossed that line".
And for a while I looked into his eyes, and he said, "Time flies"

Br. And far above the ocean I spied the silver moon,
Falling into slumber I said I'll be home soon.

3. Land of poets and angels, blessed with green and gray,
Everyone's on a cell phone, a busy London day:
Diesel fumes they ground me, taxi take me home
Past flower stalls and shopping malls, New Age on cobblestone
They say we're a lost tribe, but I don't know.

4. Daffodils stand like soldiers, generals of oak,
March to April, Chaucer's rain gives them all a soak;
Cricketers crowd the tearoom to watch this holy place
Where truth eternal shines out through the ravaging rat race,
A refuge from the great machine of lies, but still time flies.

Br. They burned my father's body, his ashes on the lawn
Beside the ballet dancers so his music might go on.

5. Back on the plane the tears fall, I'm flying with the sun,
No matter the dreams eternal, right then I knew he'd gone;
But I hear music on the headphones; they sing 'yeah, yeah, yeah',
They pierce the veil of time again and he's with me everywhere,
As Ezekiel's vision speeds through western skies, time flies.
