Magnolia

Words and music by Barbara Keith Ferrara

1. As I was out a walking the woods of early spring
I came upon a clearing, and there my heart did sing;
For there amid the ivy, my tired eyes did see
A gift of petalled splendor, a white Magnolia tree.

2. It might have been a sparrow or else a wondering deer,
It might have been a poet who planted you right here;
It might have been a young man a walking with his bride,
Across the greening forest, where holiness abides.

CH. See the green-white vision as I lie to rest,
Wake with morning sunlight, know I had been blessed.

3 Now winter's rains are balanced, the seasons are repaid;
The wine of spirit flowing in vessels now remade.
So take me from the city, and men who rule the world,
To stand beneath your branches where ageless truth unfurls.

CH. See the green-white vision as I lie to rest,
Wake with morning sunlight, know I had been blessed.

4. As I was out a walking
The woods
Of early spring.
