Clifton In My Mind
© 2000, Bobbi Keith
Now I’m walking in Clifton in the sun
Singing songs that we once knew when we were one
Blossom falling in my hair
In my mind I am there.

Drinking coffee with my friends through the night,
Smell of sweet incense burning, dim the light,
Choose a poster for the wall,
We were young fools who thought we knew it all.

Now I’m in the New World
Got a family to care of and keep me warm
Careful with my body, strict with my mind,
But the old familiar visions haven’t changed.

Snow on the mountains like a Tarot key,
The planets dance inside my head,
Doesn’t seem to matter how we turn the lie around,
Just as long as truth and love rule us instead.

Now the bridge lights they twinkle on Sion Hill,
And the pubs and the restaurants start to fill
Bed-sit poems on a wall
As red and gold start to fall.

Here in L.A. we’ve had a month of rain
And the TV crews turn puddles into shows,
The beast still rages but with far less shame
Than it seemed to have those twenty years ago.

And I am back among the autumn leaves,
With a burning love so pure,
Lost in the music I live everywhere,
And this longing only my guitar can cure.
