My Valentine Poem To My Wife
Between sleep and awake I had a vision, or dream,
I can't say which, for it was foggy you see,
But a lighthouse I saw, at the foot of the sea,
And a lonely horn blew, one wail from the deep,
I asked what does this mean? Tell me please do,
And I heard the wind say; "the sound is you",
Then a leaf fell from a tree, and the wind blew it - to and fro,
With aimless direction it had no where to go,
And then I just knew, as sure as the sky is blue,
The little leaf was me, if I had not you,
I saw a paper cup in the ocean,
Being tossed about by the sea, helpless to change it's destiny,
At that moment I knew, as sure as the sky is blue,
That little cup was me, if I had not you,
I saw a large crane standing near a marsh,
And it called out a cry that echoed soft yet harsh,
At that moment I knew, as sure as the sky is blue,
That crane was me, if I had not you,
I saw a broken old man near an old park chair,
His whole world in a basket next to him there,
I called out "old man what has happened to you",
He said in a world parallel son - I am you,
I got on my knees and I asked this wretched old soul,
If I can prevent this, I will make it my goal,
He said "it's a mystery son, solved only by you",
Then he stretched out his hand and said "here is your clue",
What I saw touched me deep and brought a tear to my eye,
In his palm a small heart that he raised toward the sky,
And the heart had a flutter, a wonder, I could see,
Honey dripped from it's comb, as it beckoned a bee,
He stretched his hands to the clouds, and disappeared without haste,
He said "this honey is yours, to caress, love, and taste,
I raised my face to the clouds and my tongue to the sky,
And I tasted the sweetness, and exclaimed, oh my!
To my wife Kim,
I honor you as God honors His Son,
I cherish you as God cherishes His children,
I love you as God loves the world,
Now I ask you today, and for all time,
Will you be my Valentine?
