LEGEND BEHIND "THE HIGHLAND FLING"
A long time ago, a great feast was planned. The father sent his son out to kill a deer for their dinner. The son found the deer, but thought it too beautiful to be killed. Upon returning home, he could not find words to tell his father why there was no meat for the evening's feast. He began to dance to tell his story. The dance came to be known as The HIGHLAND FLING.
The arms over the head represent antlers.

What is the "HIGHLAND FLING"?
The HIGHLAND FLING is a folk dance of Scotland. It was originally performed by males after battles to celebrate victories; sometimes performed on the shield of the defeated enemy. The name "Fling" comes from the characteristic step in which the dancer hops and turns on one foot while passing the other foot in front of and behind the calf.

Are there HIGHLANDS in Ireland?
Yes! There are! County Donegal boasts the only Highlands in Ireland.
