Chapter 3

"Whatcha, whatcha, whatcah want?" Erin sang as she approached me.

"Three MC's and one DJ!" I yelled.

"I'm tellin' y'all it's SABATOGE!"

"We are SO retarded!" I laughed.

"Yeah, really. Hey, lover boy called me last night!"

"And what did he have to say?"

"No, you're question shold be, 'What didn't he say?'! He would NOT shut up!"

"That's kinda funny!" I laughed.

"No, he's funny!"

I knew what was coming. "One...two...three..."

"But not as funny as David!" She always had SOMETHIG to say about David. She did it because she knew it bothered me. "Look who's coming!"

"Just a tad louder, will ya!? I swear if you say ANYTHING to him about me liking him I'll kill you. And you know I will, so don't give me that look!"

"Chill out! I didn't say anything!"

"Hey Erin!" Nick smiled.

"Yo, what be up mah homie?" she asked.

"Not much. Hey Steph."

"Howdy," I said back shyly. Erin nudged me. "Stop it you weenie!" I hissed.

Nick laughed. I found it quite amusing that he found me funny. Not knowing what to do, I just smiled. Erin just...sat there and laughed.

"Stop it," I warned, "or I'll stick chopsticks up your nose - AGAIN!"

He laughed even harder. I had both him and Erin laughing. Before the three of us could get into a REAL conversation, the bell for homeroom rung.

From then on the day just kept getting better and better. I got a 95 on my World History test, I didn't have hardly any homework, and Nick actually smiled at me durring lunch from halfway across the cafeteria. Not to mention it was becoming an everyday thing seeing Nick after the 2:30 bell. He didn't say anything that afternoon besides "Hey!" but he seemed to be in a rush. I had to work again, but I got off an hour earlier than I usually did. When I got home there was a message on my answering machine from Erin telling me to call her back.

Turns out she just wanted to talk, but the subject was Nick. According to Erin his full name was Nickolas Gene Carter, spelled with a K instead of a C, he was a senoir, his favorite sports were basketball and football, and he was addicted to Nintendo games. When he wasn't busy beating his little brother Aaron in a game of Final Fantasy or Little Nicky, he was singing or on the basketball court.

After a while, she got a beep and switched over to the other line. It eneded up being Nick, so she let me go where she could get some more information out of him for me. Little did I know I was the topic of their conversation.

"Steph's pretty damn funny, huh?" Erin asked Nick with her highly southern accent.

"God, she's HALARIOUS!" he replied. "But I don't think she's to fond of me."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, whenever I try to talk to her, she's outta there ASAP, or sometimes when I just try to talk to you, and she's really quiet."

"She's just shy. She's notorious for being shy. Just give her some time and she'll be as crazy as I am, if not crazier."

He laughed. "I'm not sure I want to now, I mean, that would be a pretty crazy chick. Kinda scary if you think about it. Besides, she saw when Roxanne dumped me. She probably thinks I'm some kinda player or something."

"Well, I can tell you for a fact she dosen't think that."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I'm her best friend! I think I would know this kinda stuff, wouldn't you?"

"You've got a point," he admitted. "Hey, what are you two doing Friday night?"

"Uh...I'm not doing anything that I know of, and as far as Steph goes, you'll have to ask her. I have no clue."

"Oh, alright. Well, you wanna go to Tampa's finest with me?"

"Tampa's finest?"

"'ello! Where ya been!? Go Kart City...?"

"Ohhhh, sure! I'll go. Why don't you ask Steph if she want's to go tomorrow at school?"

"Hmm," he laughed, pondering the idea. "Alright, I will."

Erin smiled. She hoped her plan would work. She was pretty sure it would.
