THIRTEEN POINTS IN HAIKU
Winter
Number 1
King of Nothingness,
in Spring's dreaming tyranny
rules a dying flame.
Number 2
Sex, drugs and haiku
idle by on white petals
in swift, black waters.
Number 3
Sliced by warming air,
sunsets flicker distantly
on Spring's silent dew.
Number 4
Empty trees burst green,
from flowing Winter ice groans
to grim boiled Summer.
Number 5
Sword of Satan spins
Spring webs -- sleeping spiders lull
in sore, sand-wet eyes.
Spring
or
What if we built a
Japanese Zen garden and
only Buddha laughed.
Number 6
Reporting on the
weather in the heart of the
Abyss, Summer leaps.
Number 7
Mun taneik eem
eem eej-neem ik Jun tanu
Jeen eej-unat nee.
Number 8
On moon blossoms black
as blind lightning, Spring falls fast
to Summer sun-flight.
Number 9
Stars peek out whitely
from the bottom of the well;
let darkness shield thee.
Summer
Number 10
A blood moon burns
night water on a tent of
human skin -- Summer.
Number 11
Legless centipedes
drum the coming Autumn's morn,
glory deathly borne.
Number 12
White dragons smoking
at a pipe of Autumn leaf
withers your dream-thief.
Autumn
or
zen zaid, "What, me
worry?" and, "Evade the mirror.":
zoughtful each zecond.
Number 13
Flashing Winter wings
on blue shadows in snows bright:
hungry dragons watch.
-- Ken Gage (1969-2070)
composed on Winter's coming,
2 December 2001.
Post Script
Like a fool outrunning
death, I announce intentions
toward another round.
