Past, Present, Future

This song has to be one of the most mature songs I think I've ever written. A new chapter has opened in my own life and I think this song is a direct reflection and recount of all that is going on.
Past, Present, Future
Written By John D. Parker
I flew back to my hometown for a weekend and relived my younger years.
It was crazy walking those streets again, that had seen a hundred smiles and drank a gallon of tears.
Hearing my middle name took some getting used to, but it’s family, whatcha gonna do?
I think they still see a freckled little boy as who they are talking to.
So much has changed, yet so much still remains.
So many familiar faces, even when I don’t recall all their names.
The surrealism of talking to people like old friends, when in school we’d pass each other by.
Recounting the craziness of our youth, catching up on each others’ lives.
(chorus)
Flying out of Evansville, I could see that bridge I’d crossed so many times.
As my eyes followed the highway into Dixon, I felt myself start to cry.
As I missed those days and people that seemed to vanish into time.
As I look toward my future coming in that Florida sky, I pray life don’t pass me by, don’t pass me by..
I saw my little brother, now a man someone calls Dad.
A newborn baby cousin or two, relatives I never knew I had.
Seems we all turned out OK afterall, can’t you see my Grandmother smiling down.
Seeing God’s and her creation and knowing that she’s proud.
(chorus)
Sure I miss my youth sometimes, and it’s good to sentimentalize.
But I felt a new kind of joy as I stepped through that gate and saw her eyes.
I kissed her on her lips and her belly where she carries our child.
And I realized I was seeing my future as we held each other and smiled.
(Chorus)
