James grunted, pulling on his thick maroon sweater.

“Sirius, help me get this on.” James demanded, trying to snap on his dented prefect badge.

“It was your own fault you wrecked it, Jamey.” Cackled Sirius.

“Shut up.”

“No, this is quite fun.” Sirius fell face first onto his bed. He flipped around, grinning at James.

“Really Sirius, just because I have a date for the ball tonight and you don’t doesn’t mean you have to be so cruel, really…” James started, grinning wickedly.

“You go too far friend.” Sirius said, jumping to his feet.

“Do I?” James asked evilly.

“Yes, you do.” Sirius snapped, patting him on the shoulder.

Just then the dormitory door swung open and a young first year, Reabus Hagrid, walked in. His enormous body, squeezing through the open doorway.

“Hagrid!” James yelled, greeting him.

“’I James, Sirius, wha’chu doin still in here? Dippet wans ta see you in his office, on the double ‘e says.” Hagrid announced. “Got ta go, fellows.” He said squeezing through the arch.

Sirius turned to James. “Why does Dippet want to see you?” He asked James.

“Don’t know.” James said, straightening his dented badge. “Probably another prefect meeting for that stupid new award ceremony.” James said, walking out the door with Sirius right behind him.

“On the double, sounds like it’s important, I’m gonna go try to find someone to ask to the ball, see you…Jamey!” Sirius cackled, trampling off into the common room.

James hurried across the common room floor, to his delight he was greeted by a fellow prefect, and his date that night, Miss Lily Houges. “Hello Lily.” James said, straightening his badge.

“Hello James, I was just looking for you, Dippet wants us.” She told him as they headed out of the common room.

“I know it sounds really important.” James said, helping her down a staircase.

“You don’t suppose it’s serious, do you?” Asked Lily.

“It’s probably about the ceremony at the end of the ball.” James told her grasping her hand.

“I suppose your correct, again.” She smiled. “After all you are head boy.”

“And you head girl.” James beamed, bringing her hand up and kissing it.

“You flatter me James.” She said, batting her eyelashes and blushing furiously.

“Lily, you flatter me.” He said grinning.

When they reached a large statue of a gargoyle they paused.

“What was that password again…” Lily began, biting her lip.

“Beats me.” James grunted. The gargoyle sprang to life and stepped aside, allowing them to enter the arch into the office.

“Beats.” James laughed.

“Beats, who would have guessed?” She asked, walking into the office. Headmaster Dippet was standing waiting for them when they arrived.

“Hello,” He said, beaming at them. A table was set up and around sat the prefects of Hogwarts. “Your late.” He grunted, taking a seat at the head of the table.

James escorted Lily to two open seats next to each other at the table. He let go gently of her hand as they sat down.

“As most of you know this is about the ceremony at the end of the ball today.” Dippet announced clearing his throat.

James and Lily smiled at each other.

“Now, Roger…” He began, going around the table, and reviewing what award they would hand out. “And last but not least our sweet couple James and Lily will hand out the best teacher award.” He said.

Miss Minerva Mcgonagall, a very stern and straight prefect from the Gryffindor house, showed her watch to Dippet who stood up immediately.

“If you’ll excuse I must attend a staff meeting, thank you for wasting your time at this brief meeting…Goodbye students.”

“Lily, shall I escort you back to the common room, I have quiddich practice soon.” James smiled, taking Lily’s hand once more.

“Oh, yes of course dear James.” She said getting up.

As they walked out of the bustling office, they gazed at each other deeply. But as always was interrupted bye James’ beloved sidekick, none other than Sirius Black. “Hiay guys, am interrupting something?” He asked annoyingly, leaning on James. “Quiddich practice soon.” He reminded his annoyed friend.

“Yes, of course.” James smiled. “I was just escorting Lily up to the common room.” James grunted, eyeing his friend evilly.

“Go’cha!” Sirius said, strolling off.

Lily laughed. “Your friend is quite a character dear James.” She smiled.

“Aren’t they all?” He asked.

“Yes of course dear James.” She smiled, putting her arm around him.

“Really Lily.” He laughed.

“You are bad James, very bad.” She smiled wickedly.

“Indeed.” He said, planting a kiss on her cheek.

She laughed.

“Oh the two ugly ducklings are finally mating…” Cackled a Slytherin named Serverus Snape, and on his sides were his friends, Alan Karacoff, Lucius Malfoy, Stanley Goyle, and Marcus Crabbe.

“Oh, if it isn’t slimy Snapers and his unpleasant crew…” James protested.

“Dear Prongs.” Sneered Malfoy.

Lily tried to pull James out of the verbal fight but she had no luck.

“Malfoy, standing up for your boyfriend aye?” James spat evilly.

Lucius and Snape quickly grabbed their wands and shouted out spells that James dodged easily.

Just then to everyone’s horror, tattletale, Minerva Mcgonagall strolled in, she could sense trouble a mile away. “Break it up!” She yelled, helping Lily pull James away from the gang.

As James left with Lily on his side he heard, “Fine! Walk away with your mudblood girl-friend!” He jerked around, free from Lily’s grasp and charged down the hall, knocking into Serverus and making his whole gang topple over.

He calmly walked back to Lily and quickly proceeded down the corridor, away from trouble.

At last when they reached the common room James smiled at Lily. “Well see you tonight,” He said softly.

“Yah, tonight.” Lily said, they both turned away.

James spun around, grabbing Lily’s hand and flipping her to face him closely.

“Tonight.” Lily whispered softly drawing closer to him.

“Tonight.” James hissed, connecting his lips powerfully to hers.

“Tonight.” They said together.
