merzbow space metalizer (cd from alien8 recordings)
here it is, my first merzbow cd. it was bound to happen sooner or later. this probably isn't the best starting point for someone getting into merzbow, but i listened to the mp3 off of the alien8 site and like it, so now i have it. another reason i got it was because it said on the site that he uses theremin and moog on this cd. but anyway-  the first track on this disc is not really anything special, and a little into "space metalizer pt 1" i was feeling a bit disappointed, probably i had gotten my expectations up too high, but this sounded pretty much like any other harsh noise guy. okay but not really what i had anticipated (especially since it didn't have any of the moog or theremin stuff i was expecting to hear). things progress nicely pretty much from the second track on though, with sounds getting more varied and interesting. synthesizer blips are layered with dense feedback, clanging metal, prepared tapes and the occasional theremin nearly without break, tearing across three long tracks and ending with the 'bonus track' "mirage", which is a tiny bit more laid back than the other tracks in the start. so i guess my first merzbow experience was altogether a positive one, once i got past the first track. check out the website and dowload "mirage", if you like that then you'll probably like the rest of the cd as well.
