ene/glass of juice (split c30 from evan's prosthetic limb)
i think the first side is supposed to be ene, but when i got this it was on glass of juice, so thats what i listened to. when i ordered this i thought there were three new goj songs on it, but theres only one! shows what you get for being a completist. ah but its worth it, especially for a measly three bucks. [just where does that expression come from? am i saying 'measle-covered' three bucks?] the new song, 'zones and levels' is certainly the craziest glass of juice track i've heard, i can't even think of a proper way to describe it. i want to compare it to
urmur bile trax µ-ziq or richard d james aphex twin, but thats not exactly right. it doesn't really sound that way but it puts it in my head. anyway, this certainly would work as a starting point for someone new to glass of juice, since it has some of the best tracks off of his cd [it opens with 'the easyness,' one of my favorites, and 'the rewind kid' and 'icicle recovery program' are just great]. ene opens their side with a complex loop track 'debt vs deficit', all sampled music bits it sounds like, shifting and losing layers and picking up new ones, very nice. but then its followed by the super annoying 'old nick,' which is just an old jazzy song which cuts out at regular intervals, with some echo and noise at the end. bah! this reminded me of one of the more irritating tracks off the deconstructing beck cd [my friend brady got it when there was that big controversy, and i listened to it in the car so i don't remember anyone who was on it. leave me alone]. thankfully the rest of their/his side isn't like that, the next three tracks are pretty good. 'razor fish soap' is a short, shifting rhythmic noise track, followed by 'dead travel agent' a longer atmospheric track built around a backwards organ [i think] with other  odd little noises flitting about, very pleasant actually. ends with 'daemon mirror repeller,' mostly unidentifiable samples and noises with a hip hop drum loop that keeps changing speed. -sigh- if only it didn't have 'old nick'...
