anaphylaxis american music (cdr from anaphylactic shock recordings)
with a name like american music it would almost seem that anaphylaxis was trying to say something about america, wouldn't it? it's kind of hard to figure just what the message might be though. this disc is quite a bit harsher than his other releases, so it doesn't really seem to be an entirely happy message in any case. i could go on a big long meandering examination of the nature of harsh noise, and i really really want to, but i realize i should find a more appropriate forum so i'll just get to the tracks. quite a few noise artists when trying to make something really harsh just end up with a long drawn out distortion drone but on a couple tracks here anaphylaxis really captures a fierceness and aggressiveness, especially on the excellent track 'school spirit'. and just generally speaking the tracks use some really great sounds, such as the metal friction and squeak on 'mechanical decay' and what  i believe is a sample of cheerleaders on 'american tradition (remix)'. 'feedback integration', a track i didn't think i was going to like when it first started has some great high frequency feedback about two minutes in which really makes the track interesting, followed by some interesting cut up and looped and generally messed up sounds in the track 'manipulate'. the album is closed out by the track 'the last thousand seconds' [which uses the same piano recital-esque sample as the opening track 'slowly'] which practically dares the listener to see it through all the way to the end as it slowly builds into buzzing madness through out the course of a little over sixteen minutes. how long is your attention span? hopefully long enough to really sit down and appreciate some well thought out noise.
