anaphylaxis component (cdr from anaphylactic shock recordings)
this recording, the first cd anaphylaxis ever put out i believe, seems at times to be quite chaotic and at others very structured. the first half of this is not entirely atmospheric but i get sort of a relaxed feeling when listening to it, i think because quite a few of the first eight or so tracks are mainly based on casio sk-1 sample manipulation and the sk-1 uses a pretty low sampling rate so none of the sounds seem really harsh or piercing. anyway, most of the other tracks use radio static as the main sound source, and of course when you have two main sound sources there are going to be tracks that use them well and some that don't. luckily the good more than outweighs the bad on this album, especially on a track like the eight minute shortwave radio manipulation track 'magical realism', if only for the end which sounds like 1950's science fiction movie background noise. other standout tracks include 'clockwork forest' a surrealistic sk-1 track; 'focus,' thirty seconds of grating white noise and static, with what sounds kind of like a dr laura sample at the end; 'elnora/years from now' which is some atmospheric guitar stuff [although i like the 'years from now part better than 'elnora']; and  'isolationist dream sequence' a simple but good sk-1 track. one track that i wish was better though, is 'promised land...' because it has a good sample [of a man saying "they're trying to get to the promised land"] which is then repeated via sk-1 over the slowed down version of itself. this track i think would've been much more interesting with some other sounds added. nonetheless it's still a good album which i'm sure will stand up to repeated listens.
