4 flies on grey velvet hypnotic power and mortal surrender (c60 from public eyesore)
this is about the earliest jason campbell recording i own right now, from august 1999 (ah, we were so innocent then), and it
sounds like an early release. it seems to consist of the same parts as many of his other releases, feedback and digital delay manipulation, but it's much more subdued and sparse feeling than his later works. without the layers of distortion to hide the guts of the tracks they seem much more personal, if the term can be applied to abstract noise. anyway, before i wander off further, the tracks are recorded well, there isn't any hiss or garbage that doesn't seem intentional and while it is more laid back than other campbell recordings there isn't any danger you won't hear it, nice clear bass tones kept vibrating something on my desk and i'm sure my neighbours appreciated it. the first time i listened to this i wasn't too impressed, the tracks seemed too simple and not  aggressive enough for what i wanted to hear right then, but further listens have shown it to be a better album than i thought. while more layering of sounds might have made it more complex i'm not certain that it would have made a better finished product.
