That night we all went out dancing. Rob was being so nice that I never once thought of those two awful days where he unleashed his anger on me.
The next day we all went to the beach all day and then that night we went out to dinner. After we were done eating, we all just sat around and talked. Drew looked at all of us:
“What’s the plan for later?” Ashley spoke up first:
“I want to go shopping.” Drew made a face while I looked at Rob:
“What do you feel like doing?” He slid over to me
and whispered in my ear:
“Why don’t we take a cab out to that beach those people were talking about. Where was it? Ruskin?” I nodded:
“Yeah, I think they said it was about twenty minutes from here.”
We paid the bill, said goodbye to Ashley and Drew, and were on our way. The beach was so beautiful. We went up onto these really smooth, flat rocks and sat down and just looked out at the water. It had gotten really cool out. I shivered a little bit and Rob pulled me closer and started kissing my neck. I turned to face him and gently kissed his lips. Rob deepened the kiss and started to push me backwards so he would be on top of me. I knew where this was leading and I didn’t want to. Not there. I pulled away:
“Rob, I don’t want to do this here.” He glanced around:
“Why not? No one’s around. It’s late and it’s dark.” He started to slide his hands up my skirt.
“Come on Kate.” I pushed him off of me:
“Stop it Rob! I don’t want to.” He didn’t care. He pushed me down and forced himself on top of me. I tried to fight him but it was a losing battle. He was way too strong for me. I closed my eyes and bit my lip, trying my hardest not to let him see me cry. When it was all over, Rob had this smug look on his face:
“Don’t EVER make me have to do that again.” I glared at him:
“Fuck you!” Not my smartest move ever. This just made him even more mad. My choice of words was about to change my life forever. It was worse this time than it ever was. He hit me in the eye, and then, again, on my face. I could feel both my lip and my left eye start swell up right then. I fell to the rocks in pain. He kicked me hard in the ribs. I just laid there with tears streaming down my face. Rob’s face suddenly softened:
“Oh my god, Kate. I didn’t mean—“ He reached out for me. I tried to move away and then started yelling, hysterically:
“Get the fuck away from me! Don’t ever come near me again.” Rob looked at me in horror and then he turned and ran. I didn’t know what to do. There was no way I was going to follow him. I was terrified of him. I just sat there, sobbing and bleeding.
