Next New Seed

Years ago grew a land
that too many couldn't stand,
full of hate,
full of fear and disillusion.
So they gathered their kin,
found a boat to sail off in
to another land, to find a new solution.

Now three centuries have gone
and a land that started strong
starts to crumble in the same old greed and sorrow,
So it's time, once again,
to strike out for a new land
in the hopes of a different tomorrow.

We try to build it from the heart
but that becomes the weakest part
as, bit by bit, we surrender all the dreams we had to start
and so the place that we need
to plant the next new seed
is on the map within our souls,
if we can only learn to read.

Once the world was serene with country yet unseen
and there were still places you could start anew.
But now, it's scanned from the heights
by a million satellites
and each continent is full to busting through.
But it's not just a place
or a move though time and space
that will give us the things for which we're searching.
There's a leap to be made
of which we're righteously afraid
but there's a fire upon the ledge on which we're perching.

(chorus)

So find your shore.
Build your boat
and get used to being afloat
'cause you know that it cannot stay the same here.
Oh, but there will come a day when the oceans will give way
to the place that was your birthright
since you came here.

We try to build it from the heart
but that becomes the weakest part
as, bit by bit, we surrender all the dreams we had to start
and so the place that we need
to plant the next new seed
is on the map within our souls
if we can only learn to read.
