Hook

Well, it occurs to me
the world is not this place you see.
If you peel around the edges it shows through.
We built this house of card
but we've got to know it will fall hard
with a strong wind or a push from me or you.
I set myself aside to keep my options open wide
and because it just makes better sense to me.
But in a time to come I wonder if I'll seem so dumb
if these little schemes we've set in play
should happen to get swept away.

Get a good job. Find a wife.
Lead an ordinary life.
Put your toys away
and save up for a rainy day.
But Captain Hook and Peter Pan
are squaring off in Neverland
and there may be hell to pay
but I'm on my way
I'm on my way.

It's not as if I ever found whatever I am after.
The answer's not on speaking terms with me.
And I'm not 21, I feel the pull of years
upon this vessel that I haul across the seas.
There's always been that choice;
to settle down and still my voice
and try to make the best of what I have.
But if your luck should fall
to actually hear your spirit's call
and you turn your back and walk away,
well, what God should hear you when you pray?

Get a good job. Find a wife.
Lead an ordinary life.
Put your toys away and save up for a rainy day.
But Captain Hook and Peter Pan
are squaring off in Neverland
and there may be hell to pay
but I'm on my way
I'm on my way.

Though there may be hell to pay,
well, I'm on my way
I'm on my way...

Next time, maybe, I'll stay.
