All That Matters

Well, I've been gone a lifetime,
(or so it seems)
and I can't pretend
it's been the life that I've dreamed
but you settle a little,
then you settle some more, 'till
you can't remember who you were before.
But I'm on the way home now,
that's all that matters to me.

Well, it's easy to stake out
your dry piece of land
and fight for the contents
of your empty hands.
Treat another grown man like a child of three
for trying to take away your dignity.
But I'm on the way home now,
that's all that matters to me.

(bridge)
Well now, you can say
you only blame yourself
but in time you find you take it out
on everyone else.
You'll never be happy.
It's never just so.
The only thing to do is just go, go, go.

But it's simple to suffer,
so cheap to complain,
to wait for a perfect
summer month with no rain.
Well, you look out the window.
Don't see the sun?
Might as well stay home
and have another one.
But I'm on the way home now,
that's all that matters to me.

Well, now you can say you only blame...(bridge)

Well, I hope that I'm fixed now
and I'll fit back in.
I hope I'm no longer the jerk that I've been.
Well, I've wasted my time
and I've got my regrets
but I haven't finished what I started yet
and I'm on the way home now,
that's all that matters to me.
