Introduction

 

I have contributed in the making of the personal information, story of Jay, awards won, song list, and the Chinese Lyrics webpages of the website. I also use the Java scripts to make the left popup menu, the top drop down menu of the website, mouse trail, mouse cursor, scrolling text in the status bar, the popup alert when you right click and making the pictures to appear clear when your mouse cursor is over it and then fade again when you move your cursor away. I also responsible for the editing of web pages.

 

Description of the work

 

For the webpages I do:

 

I first gather the information I need. When I get the information I want, I straight away put them in the webpages using dreamweaver software so that I will not get confuse with the information. Next I arrange the information neatly or put them in tables and separate different part of the information with horizontal lines with the tools provided by the software. After writing up of the information, I then add the special effects like the top drop down menu, mouse trail and popup alert by pasting the source codes into the code section of the dreamweaver program and the pictures and background using the software. As for the song list and Chinese lyrics part I use Microsoft FrontPage software to make the webpage because the dreamweaver software cannot support writing Chinese characters. I know that by using the Microsoft FrontPage software, after I have save the information. The visitors can still view the Chinese characters even without the Chinese program. There are 47 Chinese Lyrics and I spent 5 hours to complete them. I first locate the information then I made a table with invisible borders and arrange the information into the table neatly and standardize each lyric with the same formats and background. At the main Chinese lyrics webpage, I link the song titles to the 47 lyrics.

 

The Java scripts and style:

 

I first got information from the web on how to make the left popup menu, top drop down menu, mouse trail, mouse cursor, scrolling text in the status bar, popup alert and pictures effects.

Although I didn’t learnt java script before, I try to understand the codes in the scripts to make the special effects. I spent many hours (about 8~9 hours) trying to understand the codes, to edit and change the codes to make the effect I want for the website, which I use the method try and error to get the effects I want. I first paste the source codes into a new html document using the dreamweaver software, then try out until I get the outcome that I want. As for the menu for both the left and the top, I have changed them each three times which are another 5~6 hours more to achieve the design I want. Then I apply each script to each webpages that I want to have the effects. Although I have also spent many hours to study other type of scripts but I do not like the outcome of the result and I rejected them. To apply the scripts, I just paste the source to the web pages (from the files that I have try and error and get the correct effects I want) that I want to have the effects.

After the web pages have been done by my other group members I apply the scripts to the web pages as well as the editing of the web pages to standardize them and look better.

 

What I have learnt

 

Through group works in making the website, different people are assigning to different part of the website and the work done can be much faster. But each person has his own style in the making of the website and there are many editing in the layout and design of the web pages to standardize the whole website. As the progress in each person are also different some may finish their part faster and some slower. But there are also advantages as each person has skill specialise in something where the others may not, which the website designing may be better comparing to one person doing the whole website.

 

I have learned some basic knowledge of the java scripts through trying to understand what the codes means. Now when I see java scripts I can figure out the codes without taking much time, except for the advance scripts which the coding may be very long.

I also gained much more knowledge in web designing as the group members share their point of knowledge where they are more specialise in.
