TECHBOSTON

TechBoston was established by Boston Public Schools (BPS) School-to-Career and the Office of Instructional Technology in 1998 with funding from the Massachusetts Department of Education. TechBoston offers advanced technology courses to equip BPS students with high-tech skills essential for success in careers and post-secondary education. Over 2500 students and 150 teachers have received high-tech skills training through courses offered by TechBoston. The Private Industry Council works closely with TechBoston to place high school students in industry internships with area companies. Businesses benefit from the students' technical savvy while the students benefit from applying their newly honed skills to real world business applications. Tech Boston Consulting Group

TechBoston Consulting Group (TCG) is a computer consulting business staffed by TechBoston students from the Boston Public Schools and managed by TechBoston teachers.

TechBoston is a program offered through the Boston Public Schools which offers advanced technology courses to prepare students with high tech skills essential for success in careers and post-secondary education. TechBoston Consulting Group was formed to give TechBoston students the opportunity to utilize classroom learning in real world business situations.

TCG has two lines of business: (1) web site design and maintenance, and (2) computer support assistance for an IT department. TCG is made up of Boston Public School juniors and seniors who are active in TechBoston and the advanced technology courses. TCG students will work on and/or off site and will be supervised by a TechBoston teacher with substantial industry experience and technical knowledge.

Students are available to work after 2pm. Some students may be available on a bi-weekly basis after 12pm.

Each client is assigned a teacher to assist with administrative functions and project/team management. The participating teachers are selected for their strong technical background.

Students will provide the teacher and the client with a time sheet and status report on a weekly basis.

Rate is $20/hour per staff member. $10.00 is paid to the student with the remainder going towards the teacher's stipend, lab and software costs.
