Wanhojentanssit

Welcome to The Wanhojentanssit... or The Old Fashioned Dances. This is for the 11th grade students to moving into the mature position of seniors to prove that they are actually mature enough for it. Dressing up in traditional finnish formal clothing. Heres some Background info:

The girl in the Golden dress with me is just a friend. The girl at the end in the Red is Nanna, my first host sister. She attends a different school, but finished her dance early, so she came to mine.

My Parter is Laura (pronounced Laora with a rolled r). I had an awesome time with her and I thank God that she was a great dancer.

Some recognizable Dances included:

Polkamasurkka

Tango

Cicapo

Lambird walk (or something)

Rock around the clock

Virginia Reel

Weiner valssi (w is pronounced as v)

This is only 7 of 14. They are all tied together in some form. There was a small wind orchestra playing the songs. There was 2 shows per day. 40 couples in each dance and I was in both of them. Thursday in the evening for the parents and Friday morning for the students and teachers. Heres the kicker- Thursday is the party night. After our big event we all went to 'La tour' a real fancy french restaurant in downtown Helsinki. We had Duck and Lamb and all the rest. after this everyone headed to the club when half of us including me could not get in. ID or nothing. Oh well. The next morning is interesting because we have our first dance at 10 am. People have been out since 6 am so they are either still drunk or having a real bad hangover. This is when the dances become interesting. One guy didn't even make the first dance cause he spent the night in jail... ohhh those Finns. Ok. Enjoy.

The Build up. Practice practice practice for 2 months.. then the 3 hour build up. Girls in huge dresses running everywhere with make up. Guys either late or sitting the the change room already soaked in stress sweat.

The actual Dance. Here you will see many pictures of me either looking at the camera,, or at my feet. Let me reasure you that when I was looking down it was a part of the dance and not me screwing up. My partner, Laura and I, recieved many compliments afterward, and many said we were the best dancers.
