Charlemont ambulance works with three other towns to provide the best in pre-hospital care to those who live 30-40 minutes away from the nearest hospital, Franklin Medical Center located in Greenfield Mass.

Charlemont Ambulance covers more than just the town of Charlemont. The ambulance covers a total of 4 towns. They are Charlemont, Heath, Hawley, and Rowe.

The fire department also located on main street in Charlemont covers more than one town they cover two. They are Charlemont and Hawley. The firemen in Charlemont back those in Heath and Rowe up all the time because there are more people on the Charlemont roster than in Rowe or Heath.

To be eligible for examination for a First Class Fireman’s License a person must be a citizen or furnish proof of having filed a declaration of his intent to become a citizen of the United States; must furnish evidence to his previous training and except students attending all day sate aided vocational high schools in steam engineering courses or students performing the duties of a First of Second Class Fireman at said school, be at least 18 years of age, provided however that ho such license issued shall be used in employment by the holder thereof unless he is at least 18 years of age. A strenuous written and/or oral exam must be passed.
