A very interesting developement has occurred in relation to the future of UPN. It would appear that it was announced today that the United Paramount Network (UPN) will be renaming in 2001 to 'The Paramount Network.' The following was taken directly from a report from Ultimate TV.
UPN (United Paramount Network) will undergo a major facelift next year, as it becomes the Paramount Network on January 1, 2001 -- nearly six years after its launch on January 16, 1995. The move follows a season of changes for UPN. Not only did UPN rebound from years of steady financial and viewer losses, with the arrival of "WWF Smackdown!," but it became a wholly-owned part of Viacom, as Viacom and Chris Craft ended their partnership. This comes after a year when UPN's money and ratings losses finally stabilized. It would appear that this is now a studiowide effort, as the name change is meant to give a more unified name to Paramount Pictures. |
