According to a recent TrekToday article, a British magazine has recently reported that Paramount does not plan to make a special pilot episode for series 5.
For those of you who don't know, a pilot episode is an episode the studio films to attempt to market the show to major networks and audiences. In the beginning stages the pilot episode is only shown to interested networks and 'test' audiences in order to see reactions. In many cases the results may cause many changes to be made before the series goes into normal production, and the general public may never see the pilot. The only sensible meaning that Paramount has gone and made the decision to avoid a pilot is that they must have a world of confidence in what they have already developed for the fifth series, of course, Star Trek has always had the confidence of Paramount, as Deep Space Nine and Voyager had only small changes between the pilot and normal season. In other words, stay tuned. |
