Ultimate Trek Info

I was (GASP!) watching UPN the other night when I saw a preview for the upcoming Ultimate Trek: Star Trek's Greatest Moments Star Trek special to be airing Wednesday night. I'll be brief and say this: It was cheesy, and fake, and just plain bad. I like the idea of a special, but Star Trek's Greatest Moments? Why? You can't tell people, especially Sci Fi fans and especially Trekkies, what the greatest moments from their favorite series are. People are supposed to decide for themselves, not make it official. I realize we voted, I participated, but there were a lot of close ties, meaning a lot of people are going to be dissapointed. I'll still watch it though. :-)

Fair Haven Plot Info

The following information was gathered off The Great Link.

Deals (in part) with a new program Tom Paris has created in the holodeck, set in a quaint rural town in the Ireland of the late 19th Century. According to the casting sheet, all guest roles in this episode appear in this holodeck program, and therefore require 'authentic Irish accents'. The three guest roles are:

  • Jared Declan is the barkeep of the town's tavern, aged somewhere between the mids 40 to the earlys 50s. When Janeway decides to visit the holodeck program, she meets Jared and finds something quite appealing about him. The role of Jared Declan is called a 'special guest role' (could be Janeway's new permanent romantic interest).

  • Shammus McGinty is a quirky older Irish man, somewhere in his 50s or 60s. He is a fun character in the Irish town.

  • A 'Young Irish Lass', pretty, easygoing, and in her early 20s.
  • Special thanks to The Great Link

The Voyager Conspiracy Poll and Rating

The Voyager Conspiracy is way down from last week, earning a 4.1/7, that's 0.5 below where it was. Most likely it was because it was the day before Thanksgiving, people have places to be.

    One Small Step Overnights

Voyager's One Small Step again was just another ok episode. It brought in a 4.6 rating, 7 share. Voyager managed to squeeze into 5th in the timeslot.

    CBS?

Word on the inside, kind of, is that Paramount may be breaking up UPN or selling it. This would mean that most likely Voyager will be moving to CBS which just happens to reach a LOT more markets than UPN currently does. This also indicates that maybe the fifth series may also end up as part of the CBS network.

Dawson to make Seven Days Appearance

Roxann Dawson will be appearing on UPN's Seven Days as Commander Keagle, a captain of a US Navy ship. Currently it is scheduled to be airing January 12.

    The Great Link

    Garrett Wang Cancels Chat, Again

Actor Garrett Wang has canceled another, third time now, chat at The Star Trek Continuum. This last time was actually without him telling anyone.

    Info on Possible Episode

A variety of different websites have been putting up this latest convention report, guess I should too :-), about several episodes for voyager later this year. Everyone thinks it's gonna be called Memorium.

I just returned from a convention in Las Vegas and Berman stated that "Memorium" involves the crew recalling memories of a war once fought. A war they never were involved in. My own memories are kind of vague on his exact words (how appropriate considering the theme of the episode). Perhaps a memory wipe sort of ep? Or maybe one with a hint of Next Gen's "Inner Light" - experiencing the strong memories of another society?

Berman also stated that there is a sequel of sorts to "Fair Haven" (the ep with a hologrpahic community where Janeway gets involved with one of its members). The sequel has the members of the community suspecting the Voyager crew "are not who they seem to be", as Berman put it. Suggesting the residents are gaining sentience.

    Latest Issue of ODN Out

Adam Bailey has sent out the latest issue of the Optical Data Network today. It arrived in my mailbox a little after lunch. As usual, it is packed with news and rumors. What I found most interesting, though, is an article about Brannon Braga. It is below.

Brannon Braga recently lectured film and digital media students at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After his presentation was complete, he entertained questions from the audience. In contrast to the previous report, Braga reportedly indicated during that session that a fifty series is "in the works," and that Paramount had chosen a premise from Berman and himself. Braga said that the series would be very different from before, and would have "close to zero technobabble." He indicated that he would stay with Voyager through its seventh season, contradicting earlier reports that he would leave for the new series. (Courtesy TrekWeb)

    Dragon's Teeth Poll and Rating

I was unable to see this episode myself, I am evil, I am sorry. :-( So I've insituted something new for you guys, polls for each new episode.

As for the rating, Dragon's Teeth pulled off a 4.8 rating, 7 share.

    Updated episode schedule

There has been a change in the order in which the upcoming episodes of Voyager will be premiering. It will be One Small Step, then The Voyager Conspiracy, which looks interesting, by the way.

    More Trouble @ Paramount?

It seems that there is more detailed information available now on Brannon Braga's earlier reject idea for a series five. In an article on the Trektoday website, an unidentified source wrote this:

Early this week, two of my sources (neither of which know the other) called to tell me the latest: Rick Berman and Brannon Braga had just pitched Paramount their concept for Series 5, the new, unnamed Trek series set to begin in Fall 2000 or January 2001. The concept was evidently a Trek prequel set around the time of the Federation's birth. And Paramount turned them down cold.

What's more, another source revealed that this was the SECOND series 5 idea which Paramount turned down. The first, pitched about six weeks ago, was described as "an X-Files meets Star Trek" pastiche, probably involving time travel. So, with two of their series ideas turned down, Paramount honchos beginning to publicly speculate on a change of direction in the franchise, a moribund feature franchise and anemic surviving series, Berman and Braga are beginning to feel quite under siege and insecure in their positions.

You can read the entire article, here.

Starship Creator Deluxe Compatible with Coming game?

Simon and Schuster have hinted plans for a possible DS9 game to be released late in 2000. Other than this, nobody else knows much on what they're planning to do. It appears, though, that players will be able to use ships designed in the coming Starship Creator Deluxe game.
    The Great Link

    One Small Step

Voyager runs into a strange energy field that has collected all kinds of stuff. Amoung this is the space craft that was used for the first manned mission to Mars in 2032. While trying to retrieve it, the away team's shuttle is damaged. Seven beams aboard for parts. On it, she finds the remains of the captain from the mission. Seven beams him aboard the ship and he is given a proper burial.

    Voyager Sets Burn Down

I have learned that in an accidental explosion of a lamp, the Bridge, Ready Room and conference lounge all burned down and damage assesments said they were complete losses. Despite this, it shouldn't effect Voyager's run seeing as they're way ahead of where they need to be. (Just found it interesting.)

    Pathfinder Promo

Mr. Video Productions has a trailer up for the new episode of Voyager entitled Pathfinder.

    More Pathfinder info

The Great Link has posted more info on the upcoming episode of Voyager entitled Pathfinder, which is to feature Marina Sirtis and Dwight Schultz. You can read for yourself all the info for the episode on their Pathfinder page.

    Blink of an Eye

Updated info now available on the Voyager episode Blink of an Eye. It is summarized as follows:

While Voyager orbits a planet in which time passes so quickly that civilizations rise and fall in a matter of moments, generations of scientists try to figure out what the unusual object in the sky orbiting their world is and try to make contact with it. The Doctor will go "undercover" disguised as an alien (wearing a prosthetic nose/headpiece and a strange outfit). Scheduled to start filming on the 14th of October, this show features three guest actors, all members of the same alien race, makeup for which will consist of just a single appliance. In the episode, we will be viewing this race from several different time periods in their history.

    WebTrek

    Collective

According to TrekToday they have confirmed through The Star Trek Universe the plot of an upcoming Voyager episode entitled Collective.

This will be another Borg episode for Voyager. It begins with Seven and several other members of Voyager being kidnapped by a group borg children that were the only ones to survive an attack on their cube. The reason the borg had not allowed them to re-integrate into the collective was because, without the crew knowing it, they were flawed. Sounds interesting.

    Shimerman Interview

Armin Shimerman interview available. He recalls his life as Quark on DS9.

    Dawson Interview

Interview with actress Roxann Dawson now up. She talks about her roles in Barge of the dead and her upcoming role as director in Riddles.

    Mulgrew Interview

Kate Mulgrew's new Life: Actress Kate Mulgrew talks about her life and future on Voyager.

    New Writer

Executive Producer Brannon Braga of Voyager has hired a new writer on to his staff, Robin Bernheim. Robin has worked on Star Trek projects before and has worked with DS9 writer/co-executive producer Hans Beimler. Rumors say that Braga has been having trouble managing Voyager and he hopes that Robin's tremendous production experience will help out behind the scenes of Voyager. Although she is an accomplished professional, it is worth noting that there may have been pressure for a female staffer to be brought aboard. It appears her role will not be a "writer" but "production supervisor" or "supervising coordinator." But not all the writers on Voyager have the title of "writer," so it still may be possible she will write for Voyager.

    Pathfinder info

Marina Sirtis and Dwight Schultz are to guest star in the episode Pathfinder on Voyager which is planned to air on December 1st on UPN.

Marina Sirtis, who starred for seven seasons on "Star Trek: The Next Generation", is set to guest star in Paramount Network Television's multiple Emmy Award-winning series, "STAR TREK: VOYAGER" for UPN. Dwight Schultz, who guest starred in several episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" will also appear in this episode. Sirtis and Schultz will reprise their roles as Counselor Troi and Lieutenant Barclay, respectively, in the episode entitled "Pathfinder," which begins filming this week. The episode is tentatively scheduled to air on Wednesday, December 1 at 9:00 PM on UPN.

"Pathfinder," which takes place on Earth, revolves around Barclay's obsession with contacting Voyager. During his project to contact Voyager, Barclay becomes consumed with his holographic recreations of the Voyager crew. Barclay seeks advice from his old friend from the Starship Enterprise, Counselor Troi who helps him deal with his growing problem.

Sirtis who is best known for her portrayal of Deanna Troi has also portrayed the same character in Paramount's blockbuster feature films, "Star Trek: Generation," "Star Trek: First Contact" and most recently in, "Star Trek: Insurrection." Her additional, feature film credits include "The Wicked Lady" with Faye Dunaway, "Death Wish III opposite Charles Bronson, "Blind Date" with Bruce Willis and "The Thief of Baghdad."

    Voyager Conspiracy

Partial Braga interview on the upcoming episode The Voyager Conspiracy available.

We have a story in development in which Seven of Nine unravels a Delta Quadrant-wide conspiracy with Voyager right in the centre of it: that maybe Voyager's arrival here wasn't an accident, and maybe, just maybe, there is a conspiracy that extends from the Federation all the way to the Borg homeworld. It's called ‘The Voyager Conspiracy.’ That's a show we're planning. TGL

    Braga Interview

    Another Review

It would seem the new Starfleet Command PC game is incredibly popular among everyone except the people who really count, us. Yet another good review.
Link made possible by TrekToday and Federation HQ.

    Arena

According to Sci Fi World one of the newly planned episodes for Voyager (The one that is supposedly to have Jeffrey Combs (Brunt/Weyoun) appear as Penk) will have, also, J.G. Hertzler (General Martok) appear as a Hirogen as well as some, er.... other people. Notably, WWF stars The Rock, and maybe several others. And nobody will ever believe the name, Arena. Boy, the writers sure are staying original, aren't they?

    Braga Leaving?

Brannon Braga to possibly leave Voyager?

Rumors surrounding a new Trek series have been bolstered by unconfirmed rumors that Brannon Braga will be leaving Voyager at mid-season or the end of season six to work full time at developing the new series.

Rumors speculate that Ken Biller will be take on the role of executive producer for Voyager in Braga's absence. This report, as yet, is still unconfirmed and raises a lot of questions. Among them, what will Joe Menosky's duty during this period be? Menosky, who has served as Braga's writing partner on Voyager, would be the natural choice to take on the reins of Voyager, so perhaps this suggests that he is leaving to be a co-creator on the next series as well. Also, who will come in to take Braga and Menosky's place on the writing staff? This change would leave Voyager seriously short-handed-- leaving only Ken Biller, Bryan Fuller, Michael Taylor and Robert Doherty on the writing staff, Doherty only having three episodes under his belt and Taylor only a season. Dark Frontier Rerun Ratings are strong, while Alice remained unremarkable

According to the Nielsen Ratings the rerun of Dark Frontier was surprisingly good. In it's first hour it finished with a 3.9/6 and in it's second a 4.7/7 remaining flat from it's previous three first-run shows. Alice, though, stayed at a unincredible 3.5/5.

Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy Nielsen Ratings

"Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" remained surprisingly unchanged from last week, earning Voyager's second 4.7 rating, 7 share of the year. Voyager came in 6th just behind "Roswell" which saw a dip from 6.5/10 in it's first week to 5.0/7 in it's second week. Voyager was hurt by the Baseball playoffs, which pulled away many of it's normal visitors. More can be read at The Nielsen Ratings.

Paramount Playing Around with TOS theme?

Michael Brown of Mr. Video Productions posted an article on his site claiming one of the new TOS DVD's he got had a changed theme song. A portion is given below.

Paramount has changed the opening theme music on the original episode DVDs. This is crappy for at least two reasons; 1) They did not tell the consumer they did this, and 2) It is a lessor version than the original and no longer a genuine article from 1966. There were 5 different versions of Sandy Courage's Star Trek theme used in the original series: "The Cage" version, the "Where No Man Has Gone Before" version, the first season version, the second season version and the third season version. They re-recorded it each year.

The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before versions have no narration over them, the rest all have Shatner's voice. [...] The DVD that I just received -Volume 2 with Mudd's Women and The Enemy Within- does not have the original first season version of the theme on the opening credits for either show. The version on the DVD is the one from Where No Man Has Gone Before with Shatner's narration ADDED.

Special thanks go to Trektoday for posting this on their site and Mr. Video Productions, who noticed this in the first place. You can read the full article here.
