SITE NEWS

July 28, 2000

It was today that Starfleet Intelligence officially launched version 2.0, the new highly dynamic version of this website. After months of working off and on in his free time, webmaster of this site, Colin, posted the final finishing touches. As part of this new version, Starfleet Intelligence proudly boasts well over 80 new active pages, with many more to come in the future. A new site design, targeted primarily for far easier navigation and many new services.

Upon entrance, you will immediately notice our features. A brand new layout featuring our main contents page. Immediately know what new and interesting updates have been made to the site simply from glancing at the headlines, with news, reviews, articles, and even the fifth series categorized.

As a slight bonus for surfers running Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator version 4.0 and higher, SFI proudly initiates Intel Boy, our new dynamic news update service. While browsing through the main pages of our site you will notice a small white line extending from the left edge of the screen, and you should see it now. By simply moving your mouse over that line you will launch the Intel Boy program. Much like a true Intel Boy will follow you through important parts of this site, and by opening it you can check to see the most recent updates without browsing through each page. What's even more convenient is that Intel Boy is refreshed each time you open a new main area page, and will also refresh after 15 minutes if you stay on a page for a long duration, you don't even have to do anything.

One of our new sections is the Intel Extra area. As a continuing effort to be a leader in Star Trek, Starfleet Intelligence offers this section as an "extra" peek into the show itself, as well as several "extra" services. DS9 and VOY guides, quotes, our weekly newsletter and even several other areas. Look for this to be growing.

Our other two very important additions are the Race Guide and Talkback sections. In our brand-spanking new Race Guides, we take in-depth looks at each of the 7 major races, including history, current status, and a brief look at their future. While our Talkback section proves to be an experiment to say the least. This is your area to respond and interact, with polls, forums and even still yet more to come.

Some of you may have noticed a slight change in the update information on the main page. Before, I simply gave the last date I updated, but now I also include a time. This is because I was reviewing some domain info about the visitors to this site and I noticed some of you have some timezones very different to mine. In some cases it might actually be the next day when I update. To avoid confusion, you now have times.

Even though you wouldn't call it work, I worked on the reviews section today. I didn't produce any new reviews but I added the list of episodes from DS9's seventh season. That might not sound hard, but you try typing up all those episodes and THEN hunting for the exact URL's for the promos. Anyway, there are no new reviews, but a whole lot of new promos.

I've also spent spart of today attempting to theorize why there is a lack of news...wait I take that back...interesting news. Best guess is the holiday hiatus. Despite this, I did add a few more news articles.

Also, in case I'm unable to update the site between now and Saturday, I hope everyone has a very merry Christmas.

Apologies on the still slow reviews section, but I haven't been able to work on it. I also was not able to update very much over the last week or so until yesterday when I put on some more stuff. You may have noticed some changes to the main page, and the other pages. The main things being I made these notes into their own section, and created two new services. Specifically, you can now link to us if you have your own site and if you're having trouble getting around, you can use the site map.

I started the archives section officially. All the news from December that was on the news page was moved into the archives sub section. I kinda had to move all the new news (as of this week) that was technically December into archives. So if you're looking for a recent article from December, go to the archives by clicking on the menu on the left.

The reviews area is up, done with some reviews written by me. I'm working on trying to catch up with where Voyager is in it's run, and at the same time working backwards on some earlier episodes. Something to do during the summer, eh? As always, though, any guest reviews are welcome. If you have your own review of an episode you would like to send in, e-mail me.
