In our back garden we have a  big Bottlebrush tree that is shaped like a huge umbrella and the flowers cascade and weep in huge swaths of color . We enjoy sitting under this tree which gives us plenty of cool shade through the long hot summer we have in West Australia. After a storm or strong winds the ground is covered in a carpet of soft red needles from the flowers, We often have breakfast or afternoon tea under the branches and listen to the thousands of bees buzzing and gathering honey, There are also birds nests, we like to watch the baby birds trying out their wings for the first time and watch fascinated as the parents gently swoop down on them to encourage them to fly.

The Garden

Clothes on the washing line
Circling in the breeze
Hens in the chook house
 Laying when they please

Jessi barking at the magpie
Getting way too close
Doves cooing in the dovecote
Water leaking from the hose

Spike in his bird-cage
Whistling out of tune
Leaves blowing in the wind
Its way past noon

The bottlebrush is raining
Its leaves and flowers on us
As we sit and ponder life
And what’s yet in store for us

'Warning Addictive'

Bottlebrush and Wattles
In springtime you will see,
Them in all their glory
Filled with honey bees

Geraldton Wax a pretty flower
Petals from pink to purple
Then we have the red Grevillias
And the very pretty Myrtle
