The Whole F'n History!
The Whole F'n History!

The rock'n'roll/indie/blues-mish mash of noise 'The F' were originally created back in the summer of 1998 with Ste, Bro and Paul naming the band "Horizon". After a few name changes from "The Horizon" to "Fresh Pursuit" and now to "The F", two of the Horizon members (Ste and Paul) remain. The four members forming this intriguing assembly are Ste, a guitarist and lead vocalist, Paul, the drummer for the past 4 years, Chris, who has been on the keyboard for 2 years and new addition Goo who has played Bass for the last couple of months.

In the early days of Horizon Paul and Ste had many rock 'n' roll punch ups, including bass throwing incidents and... drumming stuff throwing incidents! Paul now likes to be called "L.D."... which is short for Lazy Drummer, although he likes to point out that he works his arse off when hes required to do so. Chris who plays keyboard, also makes lots of funny noises with his piece of musical equipment, the boy has studied music at GCSE and at A level.

The band has matured over the past few weeks and months and will usually practice once a week unless things such as Ste buggering off to America and Goo buggering off to festivals get in the way.

Using seperate musical influences to improve the feel of Indie rhythms mixed with funky riffs driven by a mixture of intense and chilled bass sounds, The F are able to deliver a sound which most people can enjoy.

After the addition of Chris in 2000, rehearsals and gigs soon had the band moving in the right direction and preparations for the bands first Demo CD were made. Included on the demo were Go Get, an up tempo bass and drum groove, Career Move, a bluesy schmoove track with chilled vocals and absorbing bass licks giving some depth and contrast which has been noted as a favourite for the more "chilled out" observer. Finally , I Am The Walrus (Beatles Cover) sung by Steve which layed foundation for an extensive rock 'n' roll finish.

Shortly after the making of the demo "Go Get", made its first play on the regional radio station TFM. It received an enthusiastic reception from the Talk-In listeners and was supplementary to the exposure of the band. Gigs with The Undertakers and Silent Bob proved to be of some success with sets mixed with covers and original material.

The past 18 months has proven a test of the bands character, having finished 3rd in the Middlesbrough - Carlisle Live and Uncut competition the band looked ready to make a big breakthrough but had a major setback as Paul's collar bone broke, which led the band to 2 months without hitting a single note. Paul's quick recovery was a credit to him, and "Fresh Pursuit" were quickly rehearsing again ready for a performace at the Stockton Festival for the second year running, but to the dismay of the band Paul's collar bone felt like being a twat all over again!.....Another six weeks was lost.

Since Paul's second comeback (he's made nearly as many as Status Quo!), Bro left the band he and Ste had created to concentrate on university and moved to Leeds to further his education. This meant a new guitarist (Rob) was added to the line up. A change of name also came about.....'The F' was given as the new name as a shorter version of "Fresh Pursuit". The new name could be used very well in the promotion of the band but a couple of members were almost expelled from college after they posted a number of 'F's' all over the campus. The student representitive and a number of cleaners found this to be 'offensive'.

THEN (deep breaths), Rob left the band and Ste moved to lead guitar and lead vocals, making way for Goo, the new bass player whose style of playing once again gave the band a style of music which could be enjoyed by a wide range of people young and old.

The F went on to record 9 tracks in the studio that summer (6 came out OK and of those six, 2 came out really well)The F aim to return to the studio THIS summer to get it right!

THEN, Bro came into the band to allow Ste to move to vocals and after two gigs Bro left. Enter new guitarist Paul Mac. So things are going swimmingly until Goo gets a full time job and quits the band leaving us bassless... so now Ste was left playing bass temporarily. As well as another guy, Andy who plays at the Scarborough gigs. So now the F are here with THIS lineup.
