To reach 1 from the start follow Glasshouse Mountains Tourist Rd ( GMTR ) north for about 2km and you will see Matthew Flinders Park on your right at Tibrogargan Ck. Checkpoint 1 is located near this park so turn into the park ( Toilets available ). To reach 1a take the northern road under the railway line and follow to your left for just over a kilometre.
To reach 3 turn right onto Woodford – Beerbuurum Rd ( W-BR ) about half a kilometre south from the base at the school and follow W-BR for 2-3 kilometres and a gravel road will go to the left ( a sign will be placed here directing you to 3 which is about 2km along this road.
To reach 4 return to W-BR and turn left and follow past the junction where one road goes right ( Old Gympie Rd – you will come back to this later to get to 5 ). Continue following W-BR for a few kilometres until the bitumen ends. Checkpoint 4 is located where the first forestry roads cross the gravel section of W-BR.
To reach 5 return to the junction with Old Gympie Rd and turn left ( bitumen ). Follow until you come to the first bitumen road turning to the left. This is the Lookout Rd. Follow this and go through the Lookout 589 ( toilets are located here ) onto the gravel road , Lookout – Woodford Rd ( L-WR ). A few hundred metres along this turn right into Connection Rd. Checkpoint 5 is located about half a kilometre along this road.
To reach 6 return to L-WR and turn right and follow this gravel road about 3 kilometres and you will come across Checkpoint 6.
To reach 8 continue along L-WR and turn right. This is the gravel section of W-BR after it has come up Hennessey’s Hill. Follow this gravel road for a few kilometres until you notice power lines crossing the road. A few hundred metres past this there will be a left turn across a cattle grid. Take care following this forestry road for about 5-6 kilometres and yo will cross a bitumen Rd ( Raaens Rd ) and Checkpoint 8 is about a kilometre past here. This is Checkpoint 7. You will notice electricity poles on the left of this road. Follow past Checkpoint 7 for just over half a kilometre and keep going straight ahead when the power poles go right. Follow this track for about 700 metres and take the left turn at this junction. Continue for 1.7km and take a right turn and about .7km along here you will come to a T junction with a bitumen road ( Raaen Rd ). Turn left and I km further along you will come to McConnells Rd ( gravel ) on your right. Turn into this road and checkpoint 8 is just over a kilometre along here. Alternatively to reach 8 you can follow W-BR into WOODFORD and turn left onto the D’Aguilar Highway towards WAMURAN and CABOOLTURE. About 3-4 km along this road Raaens Rd ( bitumen ) turns left off the Highway and can be followed to McConnells Rd where you turn right.
To reach 7 retrace your path. Return to Raaen Rd ( bitumen ) and turn left. Follow for one kilometre and turn right and take the right hand gravel road. Follow this for .7km and take a left turn. Continue for 1.7km and turn right to continue along for .7km and go straight ahead with power poles on your right and you will come to 7.To reach 6 retrace your steps along W-BR and W-LR.
Retrace your track to 5.
To reach 1 and 2 follow the road from the Lookout to the bottom of the hill and turn left ( Old Gympie Rd ). Take the first bitumen road on the left which is Marsh’s Road and follow this until it joins GMTR. Turn right and about 2 km along you will be at Matthew Flinders Park and the Beerburrum turnoff is a further 2 km.
To reach 9 follow GMTR to the north ( left ) for about 4-5km and you will see a Matilda Service Station on your right Turn right into Bowen Rd and follow this to join with Johnstone Rd which will take you across The Bruce Highway near Moby Vics ( Mobil ) Service Station. Go straight ahead and follow the bitumen to the right to Wild Horse Mt .
To reach 10 you will need to go back to where you turned right to get to Wild Horse after crossing the highway and follow the gravel forestry roads to the right ( take care on the loose gravel ) until you take a right turn after about a kilometre and this takes through to 10 . Return to 9 the same way.
Remember to carry your Vehicle Authorisation Slip with you.
Note to get to 6 , 8 , 7 and 10 you will need to follow some forestry roads. Take extreme care on these gravel roads and you should obtain a copy of the race permit (See Race Director ) to do this. 8 can be reached on gazetted roads by following Beerburrum – Woodford Rd into Woodford and turning left on the D’Aguilar Highway and following past D’Aguilar to Raaens Rd ( at the top of the range ). Raaen’s Rd takes you to McConnells Rd where the houses are on the right. It is expected that only 100 mile entrants crew would need to get to 8 and 10 using forestry roads.
