The International Manga Society

"We are a non-profit association trying to publish underground Japanese mangas, but also European comics. We are not very much into super-heroes and prefer down to earth stories.

Our comic strips 'Visions of Japan' are pre-published in Japan in the magazine The East (in English)."

Visions of Japan

Visions of Japan

In Japan, the stereotyped image of a Gaijin (foreigner) being American, foolish, and incapable to either speak Japanese or understand Japanese society still prevails. Our comic strips can be perceived as a critical eye on Japanese society, but without being a pamphlet against Japan or its citizens. Overall, it is satirical and humorous.

Visions of Japan regroups a series of comic strips resulting from a European~Japanese collaboration. Because around 40% of printed matters in Japan are mangas, it is the best suited form of expression to share information about a country that live with images.

It is hoped that this 128 pages book will provide readers with an insight into Japan, reveal and lift the veil on a 'perfect' country, but most of all that it will entertain and distract.

Visions of Japan has been written by European and Japanese authors and part of it is being pre-published in The East magazine in Japan (well known magazine in English about Japanese culture). So far, the feed-backs are relatively good; also we have decided to publish it as a full book. Visions of Japan reveals some aspects of Japan and the Japanese with humour.

This publication targets a large audience of Europeans, Americans and Japanese, as well as expatriates living in Japan or any person interested in discovering hidden aspects of Japan.
