Ken Knudtsen Interview

September 2002

Q. people in the UK will know you for "my monkeys' name is jennifer", are there any other titles out there we can catch your work in, anthologies etc? if so, where can we get hold of them?

A.Nothing else yet, but I have a few possibilities with what I will be doing next.

Q. why jennifer?

A.It just seemed like a funny thing to do.

Q.how well recieved has "my monkey's name is jennifer" been?

A.It's been very well received from reviewers and pros(James "STARMAN" Robinson came by the SLG booth at the San Diego convention to tell me how much he loved JENNIFER), which I was very happy to see.

Q. do you have any favourite indie artists or titles, what would you recommend?

A.NIGHTMARES AND FAIRYTALES(Slave Labor Graphics), REX MUNDI(Image), and anything that Jim Mahfood is doing. I read a ton of comics every week.

Q. jennifer's quite an aggressive character, who or what bugs you, and what would you get jennifer to do to them?

A.Lazy people bug the living shit out of me. Jennifer would bite them in their eyes.

Q. do you have any side projects going? what are you working on at the moment?

A.I'm working with my friend on a story that is quite a bit different than an angry monkey.

Q.have you grown tired of monkey questions yet?

A.Not yet. You have no idea what people ask me, so it's still fun.

Q.what's next for jennifer?

A.Issues #3-5 take Jennifer and Kaitlin on a pirate-filled adventure(Arrr), and #6 shows what the parents have to do to take Jennifer out in public.

Q.are there any people you would like to collaborate with?

A.I can't tell you how cool it was to see something that I had drawn(#1's cover) to be inked by Klaus Janson! James Robinson, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, just anyone with an interesting story to tell.

Q. if you could be any monster, what would you be and who/what would you stomp? A.You HAVE to go with Godzilla(always pissed off). And I would stomp Fred Durst and P.Diddy(I wish their hearts would explode).

we did get asked to ask you "where's the tits and dinosaurs, if you added those you'd have the most commercially viable comic in the store".

A.He forgot LESBIANS! And I have those.
