Chemeast     BWT GP
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A most modern one shot boiler water conditioner. The product contains all the necessary components to condition and maintain boilerwater both corrosion and scale free. Control of this compound is extremely simple and safe. Without previous experience, personnel can become familiar with testing within minutes to ensure the condition of the boiler water. There are no risks of caustic corrosion due to overmaintenance. The BWT is a washing treatment. Old deposits will be slowly removed from the boiler surfaces. The main difference with traditional phosphate based treatment is that the eliminated hardness forming salts are kept in solution instead of being precipitated to mud box. This ensures much better removal of those salts through regular top and bottom blowdowns and prevents the precipitate from adhering to surfaces or bottoms.

Use

BWT can be used in any boiler up to 100 bar pressure. It suits the modern vertical smoke tube boilers mostly encountered in merchant ships extremely well. The pressure class of the boiler defines the dosages being used. The other defining factor is the available feed water quality. The raw water influences the possible need of additional oxygen removal or condensate treatment. Our representative will help you to define correct dosages and treatments in all cases but specially if the used raw water is not ship produced distillate which can be normally treated with BWT alone. More data in our educational book: Water treatment and Chemical maintenance in Ships.

Use instructions up to 20 bar

Initial dosage into untreated distillate:

0.3 ltr / m3 boiler water.

Daily maintenance:

Boilers up to 5 m3 water capacity

0.3 ltr / day

Boilers up to 10 m3 water capacity

0.5 ltr / day

Boilers up to 15 m3 water capacity

0.7 ltr / day

The dosage is best done with an electronic dosing tank / pump system. The dosing should be done directly into the boiler. If that is not possible directly into feed water pump suction side. If that is not possible directly into hot well or pressurised deaerator water storage section. All dosage through dosing pump to be done in at least 1:100 dilution into condensate or distillate and the daily dosage fed according the pump capacity. Dosing over 24 hrs is recommended (continuous dosing)

Blow down:

Initially 5 second blows from the top and the bottom mornings and evenings. Adjust the blow down based on the stability of the control readings.

Testing :

Hardness:

Test with a dip slide. You have four green squares. If any of the squares colours you have hardness and need to check for the source. See the instruction on daily log.

pH:

Test with pH slide range 7.5-14 or liquid indicator which is the most accurate means to read pH of all quality waters like low buffered distillates or condensates that cannot be measured with electronic meters. For boiler water you can use an electronic meter. Your pH should be between 9.5-11.0. If any deviation outside this range, check the reason if blow down or small increase in dosing does not return the readings to acceptable levels.

Conductivity:

Test with electronic conductivity meter range 0-1999 µS/cm. Maintain the conductivity between limits 400-1500 µS/cm. If any deviation check the reason. Try to avoid the lower end of the range.

These three quick tests correlate with each other and indicate immediately if there is any need for concern. Most often the values deviate because of seawater leak, too high or too low dosage and oxygen leaking into steam/condensate system.

Perform a chloride test always when hardness is indicated or conductivity suddenly rises over 1500. A rapid change in pH reading may indicate either salt or oxygen leak. For chloride test you can use Saltesmo dip strips or Chloride 500 test kit.

It is recommended to check from time to time the active oxygen scavenger content with a test strip.
