CPR SAVES THE LIFE OF A DROWNED BOY

DR. MOHAMMED A. SERAJ FFARCSI.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) saved the life of a drowned boy. Six persons of different nationalities gathered coincidentally on the spot at the same time to save the life of an eight year-old Moroccan boy who was found drowned in the swimming pool of Tarek Hotel, Tangier, Morocco.

Two Moroccan entertainers and a Dutch tourist helped to bring the boy out of the deepest end of the swimming pool. Duration and cause of drowning were unknown. Rescue effort was carried out by the rescuers to bring the drowning water out of the boy's lungs by placing him in the prone position and compressing the back of the lower chest. The rescue team claimed that the boy was blue with opened eyes and dilated pupils. Within few seconds, the pulse and respiration were checked by the first nurse (Dutch) who applied immediately one Man CPR. Few seconds later, she was joined by a British nurse (certified in CPR) in Two Man CPR. Time of the CPR was not recorded during one man or Two man CPR. until I arrived where CPR continued for at least three minutes more. The effectiveness of the CPR helped to save the life of the boy who started crying and coughing. The child was encouraged to breath effectively. Vital signs were checked and the boy was placed into the left lateral position, wrapped in a blanket and then taken to a warmer place inside the hotel. A few minutes later the Moroccan ambulance service arrived. The boy was cared for by the ambulance attendants. Oxygen was given by mask, vital signs were checked and the boy was put under observation. A quick incident report was given then the boy was transported to hospital for check-up and observation. Later on that day the boy was discharged from the hospital alive and well.
