 Old Highways

(C) 2001-2002 Robert Lee

Southern Highways :: Abandoned US 11, Enterprise MS

The Chunky River bridge and adjoining relief bridge on US 11 north of Enterprise were replaced in the mid 1990's by new bridges. The old bridges were narrow and signed as one lane bridges. Only the main truss span and part of the northern approach were left in place following construction.

Looking north at the remaining part of the old bridge on the left and the new bridge on the right. The section of US 11 from north of CR 370 to CR 375 was relocated as part of the replacement of the bridge.

Looking south between the river bridge and the relief bridge. The old roadbed and most of the river bridge was completely removed.

The abandoned northern approach to the bridges. Large mounds were put in on each end of the old road to stop any vehicle from driving off the embankment.

Looking southward along the abandoned roadway. Before construction, the left side of the road was wooded.

Looking north at the access road back to US 11. CR 375, the road to Dunn's Falls is just on the other side of the mound.
