AFJROTC cadets of the quarter named: Harmontown-- Cadet Major Bryan Babb and Cadet Staff Sergeant Robert Jones, both of Harmontown,MS, were recently named outstanding cadet for the Lafayette High School Air Force Junior ROTC.
The cadets were selected from a pool of cadets and interviewed by the cadet group commander and a board of cadet officers. The cadets were asked to show their knowledge of military history, demonstrate military bearing and knowledge of both corps and current events.
Cadet Babb is a senior and a four-year-member of ROTC. He serves as the commander of the Armed Drill Team and the corps logistics officer.
He has filled various leadership roles in the corp and has been a major contributor to the drill team successes over the past years. Along with his leadership in drill roles, he is equally capable of being a follower as a member of the color gaurd.
Babb rarely spends his after noons idle. It is typical to find him in the ROTC complex working on team or individual drill or color gaurd moves.
He is the son of Doris and Bryan Babb.
Cadet Robert Jones is a first-year cadet. As a member of the Raptor Flight, Jones serves as the flight commander for the flight. He is another very strong link in the corps drill and color gaurd teams. He contributed significantly to the corps efforts in the recent Grenada and Millington Drill Meets. Teams of which he was a member won a trophy each time they competed.
"Robert is always ready to help with anything there is need to do. This is a trait which should be emulated by other cadets," said Master Sergeant Rich Burt, a ROTC instructor with the corps.
Jones is the son of Billy and Julia Jones.
Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Ramsey wholeheartedly supports the selection of these two fine cadets.
"They are the first two cadets in the history of Lafayette High School to compete in the Armed Dual Tandem Exhebition Drill Team in competitions. We are proud of their initiative, pround to have them in our program and on our teams."
Each received a plaque and certificate commemoration their achievment and was awarded a Superior Performance ribbon for their accomplishments. 01/05/01
