Community Service Projects

Distinguished Service Awards

Every year we honor an outstanding young citizen from the Hattiesburg Area. We also honor one Hattiesburg Firefighter, one Hattiesburg Police Officer, one Hattiesburg Public School Teachers, and on Hattiesburg City Employee for excellence in their profession and outstanding service to the community. Our banquet is normally held in January.

Forrest County Junior Miss

The Hattiesburg Jaycees along with William and Peggy Horton sponsor the Forrest County Junior Miss Program for high school juniors that live in Forrest County. This is not a beauty pageant. This is a scholarship program for young women who excel in academics as well as  beauty and talent. The program is normally held between February and April.

Camp Blue Bird

Camp Bluebird is the weekend camp for Adult Cancer Patients sponsored by Forrest General Hospital.  It is held in April and October every year. The Hattiesburg Jaycees have been proud to offer the campers their Saturday night dinner for the last two camps. We are hoping to participate again this October.

Labor of Love Blood Drive

Each year on the Friday before Labor Day, the Jaycees break out our grill and head for United Blood Services on 28th Ave in Hattiesburg. Because Hattiesburg has two major hospitals, Blood Services needs all the help they can get. We are happy to provide hamburgers with all the fixin's and various sides donated by local restaurants.  Anyone that gives blood on Friday September 1, 2000 between 9 am and 6 pm get lunch on us!

Hattiesburg Christmas Parade

One of our favorite projects is the Hattiesburg Christmas Parade. No one is exactly sure how long the Hattiesburg Jaycees have been sponsoring this parade in downtown Hattiesburg but we think it's going on 50 years now. We kick off the Christmas season around the first of November. Floats, cars, bands, drill teams, and local celebrities, and of course, Santa, line up at the Public library and parade through down town to the delight of our city's children.

FUND RAISERS

We have several fund raisers throughout the year to help raise money for the various organizations we contribute to and to help off set the expense of our projects.

  • We own our building and rent it out to the public.
  • We have a booth at Old Time Fest in the Spring and Hub Fest in the fall. We sell adult beverages, as well as cokes and occasionally snacks.
  • We're trying our hand at raffle tickets this year.
  • Haunted House
  • Dog Show (hopefully 2001)

Organizations We Contribute to:

  • Hattiesburg Children’s Shelter
  • The Salvation Army
  • The Red Cross
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Boys State
  • Girls State
  • Contributions to Scouting
  • Jaycee Youth Foundation
  • Forrest Co Human Society
