My Best Friend By Laynie1121@aol.com

Disclaimer: We all know that I don't own them. But since it's necessary,
Mulder and Scully belong to FOX and Chris Carter and 1013. And I don't
own the song used in this fic either. It belongs to the wonderful Tim
McGraw. =)
Feedback: Of course! It lets me know if I should write more! But I warn
you, flames are sent to my paper shredder and never heard from again.
Author's Notes: Today while I was driving through town, I had the radio
going and this song started to play. Well, I listened to the words and
thought, "This is a major Mulder/Scully song." So it inspired a fic and
now, here I am. Oh, and to Marie who helped me out a bit while I was
writing this fic. Thanks Mar! You're such a doll. (LOL)

The first thing Dana Scully did when she got home was check her
messages. The mechanical voice said there was only one and it gave the
time and date.
"Hey Scully. If you're not busy tonight, why don't you drop by the 8th
Street Café around nine thirty."
Scully glanced at her watch. Nine o' nine. If she hurried, she could
change, re-apply her make-up, and catch a cab before meeting up with
Mulder.

At nine-twenty-eight, Scully paid the cab driver and entered the 8th
Street Café. She immediately began to search for her partner but had
no luck in finding him. The house was full tonight.
She was surprised that she even found a seat. It was at the very front,
but at least she had one. As soon as she sat, an emcee came out, center
stage.
An extremely bright spotlight hit him but he was obviously used to it.
He smiled brightly as he began to speak.
"Welcome to karaoke night! We have a new comer here tonight, ladies and
gentlemen, and he's pretty damn good."
Scully rolled her eyes and thought, 'Mulder, payback's a bitch.'
The audience's sudden clapping and whistling, mostly created by women,
startled Scully out of her thoughts and her attention returned to the
stage. What she saw made her eyes open widely and her jaw drop slightly.
For there, on center stage, sat a very handsome Fox Mulder. He had on
casual clothes - a pair of Levi 501's and a white tee-shirt - but she
could see why the women in the audience were going wild.
Mulder's eyes were searching the crowd as the music began and he smiled
- 'The million watt one' Scully thought - when he spotted her.
I never had no one that I could count on
I've been let down so many times
And I was tired of hurtin', so tired of searchin'
Til you walked into my life
And it was a feelin' I've never known
And for the first time I didn't feel alone
You're more than a lover
There could never be another to make me feel the way ya do
And oh, we just get closer
I fall in love all over everytime I look at you
I don't know where I'd be without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
Scully smiled at Mulder and then closed her eyes, just letting
his smokey voice wash over her. She knew the song was meant for her.
Not only because of the fact that Mulder's eyes hadn't left hers the
whole time he'd been singing, but because she just knew. Scully willed
her thoughts at bay so she could concentrate on the rest of the words.
You stand by me and you believe in me
Like nobody ever has
When my world goes crazy, you're right there to save me
You make me see how much I have
And I still tremble when we touch
And oh, the look in your eyes when we make love.
You're more than a lover
There could never be another to make me feel the way ya do
And oh, we just get closer
I fall in love all over everytime I look at you
I don't know where I'd be without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
You're more than a lover
There could never be another to make me feel the way ya do
And oh, we just get closer
I fall in love all over everytime I look at you
I don't know where I'd be without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
As the last notes of the song faded away, Scully felt tears in
her eyes. She quickly brushed them away and began to applaud with the
rest of the audience.
The emcee took the stage again and said, "Fox Mulder, ladies and
gentlemen." As the emcee announced the next act, Mulder walked offstage,
down to the floor area, and straight to Scully. When he reached her,
she threw her arms around him and hugged him close. Mulder returned the
hug and then pulled back a little.
"That was for you, ya know." he said in an almost shy voice.
Scully kissed him on the cheek and whispered, "I knew the whole time."
Mulder grinned, and although he already knew the answer, he asked
anyway.
"How."
Scully replied simply, "You're my best friend."
