Action Shooting...the Most Fun You'll Ever Have with a Gun in Your Hand!!!

Want to learn more?

December 6, 2008 We could not have asked for more perfect weather for this months match! Cold in the morning, lots of sunshine, and a gentle breeze made for perfect conditions. Twelve shooters enjoyed four stages of loud run-and-gun fun in the December sun!

The first stage was a familiar classifier, Times Two, where the shooter had to engage 3 targets, move to a second position (while reloading) and engage 3 more targets. We had some very good times and some impressive scores, including a smokin' hot score of 4.83 by a member of the Naval SpecWar community.

Good job, "Doc! "

Here's proof that just about anybody can participate in this sport. You don't have to be an athlete in top condition to compete in Action Shooting!

The Scores from Times Two;

Shooter...............Hit Factor

Matt "Doc" M..............4.83

Patrick L.................3.70

Walt D....................3.61

Johney M..................3.46

Gregg B...................3.20

Robbie Z..................3.02

Ray S.....................2.44

Colin D...................2.22

Kurt P....................2.19

Fred V....................1.44

Nick C....................<1.0

Michael L.................<1.0

Hit Factor = target points/time in seconds

The second stage was called Bob and Weave. The shooters engaged 3 targets through a doorway, advanced to the edge of a wall and engaged 2 stationary targets and a Bobber, then moved to the other end of the wall for a similar target group. This was the first time some of our shooters had encountered a moving target - other shooters showed that they had seen these before...take a look!

Here's Colin shooting Bob and Weave;

The third stage was called "Goin' Down!". The shooters first engaged 2 targets around the left side of a wall, then 2 more around the right side. They ran to a second position and engaged 3 more targets, this time while kneeling. They then moved to the final position, engaging 3 more targets while prone behind a barricade. It just goes to demonstrate that there is more you can do with a pistol than just stand at the 7 yard mark and punch holes in a bullseye target...

We also ran this stage as a tactical carbine stage, pulling the barricades and walls out to provide longer shooting lanes for the rifles. It was a joy and a privilege to watch a professional sniper run this tactical course with his long-range rifle! Too bad the camera died...we did get a snapshot or two, tho;

A few other snaps in no particular order...

and a vid clip or two...

As always, we finished the day by cleaning up the range. Good Job, guys!

We'll have more images after the smoke clears at our next match!
