Action Shooting...the Most Fun You'll Ever Have with a Gun in Your Hand!!!

Want to learn more?

November 1, 2008 We could not have asked for more perfect weather for this months match! Clear skies, plenty of sunshine, and a cool breeze made for a perfect day on the range. We had ten shooters show up for 3 stages of run-and-gun action, and everybody had a great time...

The first stage was a classifier, Times Two, where the shooter had to engage 3 targets, move to a second position (while reloading) and engage 3 more targets. We had some very good times and some impressive scores, while we also had some folks who could use a bit of practice ;^)

Here's proof that just about anybody can participate in this sport. You don't have to be an athlete in top condition to compete in Action Shooting!

The second stage was called Right and Left. The shooters engaged 4 targets around the side of a barrier, shooting right-hand only, then moved to another barrier and engaged 3 targets shooting left-hand only. The second group of targets was made a bit more difficult by the presence of a "hostage" out front. After engaging the second group of targets, and avoiding shooting the "hostage", the shooters moved forward and engaged 5 targets, avoided shooting 2 more "hostages", and finished the run by hitting a stop plate, all targets engaged over a low wall.

The third stage was a 2-gun walk in the park. The shooters started out with pistols holstered, carrying a tactical carbine, walking on "patrol". At the sound of the timer, the shooter turned and engaged 2 targets partially hidden by a low wall, advanced to an "ammo dump" and reloaded, then engaged 3 targets behind a barrier. The shooter then advanced to another "ammo dump", reloaded again, and finished off 3 targets behind another barrier. Dumping the empty carbine, the shooter then engaged the fourth group of targets with his pistol. It was a long, fun field course, lots of rounds, plenty of smoke and noise, and a good time was had by all! Some of our shooters had never fired a tactical carbine before, and learned how easy it is to load and shoot an AK-47, and how much fun they can be.

As always, we finished the day by working on the range. We cleaned up the old, shot-up targets, got rid of the busted 2 X 4s that were scattered around here and there, and installed target stands along the berm. We hauled away an entire truckload of busted junk and trash. Honestly, I've never seen the pistol range so clean! Good Job, guys!
