Catatonia Live @ The Astoria

Live Gigs '99

Make Hay Not War!

A Brief Review Of The Gig 08/05/99 by Victoria =^._.^=

Cerys is looking particularly stunning this afternoon as she confidently saunters onto the stage at the London Astoria, clutching a bottle of wine and brightening the venue with her sparkle of sexy sophisication. She flashes a seductive smile and has already captured the audience. Cerys, you see, is truly a star. Her unique style and powerful presence make her an idol for the female fans and a goddess to the awestruck men. Catatonia are the personification of non-conformist chart music and their somewhat kitsch appeal ensures that there are no comparisons. Their music is sublime and thoughtful. And today's set will be no exception - the triumph is completely predictable, the anticipation is mind-blowing!! For a start, this gig was no ordinary affair, with tickets only available through Adam's Catatonia Homepage or Xfm and a live satellite broadcast to Japan. The set explodes with the euphoric guitar pop of "Storm The Palace". "Equally Cursed and Blessed" seems to be a new venture for Catatonia, incorporating more balladic overtones but with true and inevitable Catatonic style. Today's set has quite a diverse mixture from all the albums ranging from "You've Got A Lot To Answer For" to the anthemic refrains of "Road Rage" to the melodically refined perfection of "Bulemic beats" to the mellow and delicately beautiful "Dead From The Waist Down" - a song worthy of waving your lighters in the air and dreaming of hazy summer days. Here's to all things Catatonic!!!!!! ©1999
