INSTRUCTOR :



PURPOSE:

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO STUDY THE NATURE OF MENTAL RETARDATION AND
PERCEPTUAL MOROR HANDICAPS: CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILDREN WITH LEARNING
DISABILITIES : AND SELECTION OF APPROPRIATE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.


OBJECTIVES

1. TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS THAT HANDICAPS ARE FACED WITH DAILY.

2. TO LEARN THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURS OF HOW TO SET UP AN ADEQUATE PROGRAM FOR THE HANDICAPS, BASED ON INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND INTERESTS.

3. TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH DIFFERENT TERMINOLOGY IN THE FIELD OF RECREATION FOR THE HANDICAPS.

4. TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE TOTAL RECREATION FIELD AND ITS' RELATIONSHIP TO THE TOTAL FIELD OF EDUCATION.

5. TO PROVIDE EXPERIENCE WHICH WILL HELP THE INDIVIDUAL TO EXCEPT HIS DISABILITY AND TO SEEK A NORMAL LIFE THROUGH RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.



COMPETENCIES:


UPONE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS CLASS A STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

1. DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO ORALLY COMMUNICATE INFORMATION ON A GIVEN TOPIC IN A COHERENT AND LOGICAL MANNER.

2. DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO COMPREHEND AND INTERPRET A MESSAGE AFTER LISTENING.

3. DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO WRITE IN A LOGICAL, EASILY UNDERSTOOD SYTLE
WITH APPROPRIATE GRAMMAR AND SENTENCE STRUCTURE.

4 . DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO READ AND INTERPRET ORLLY AND IN WRITING PROFESSIONAL MATERIAL.

5. ESTABLISH RAPPORT WITH STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM BY USING VERBAL AND/OR VISUAL MOTIVATIONAL DEVICES.

6. PRESENT DIRECTIONS FOR CARRYING OUT AN INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY.

7. DEMONSTRATE INSTRUCTIONAL AND SOCIAL SKILLS WHICH ASSIST STUDENT IN DEVELOPING A POSITIVE SELF-CONCEPT.

8. DEMONSTRATE INSTRUCTIONAL AND SOCIAL SKILLS WHICH ASSIST STUDENTS IN INTERACTING CONSTRUCTIVELY WITH THEIR PEERS.

2. NEW LAWS - INTERPRETATION AND IMPLEMENTATION

3. THEORIES ABOUT MOVEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN AND YOUTHS

4. THE TEACHING OF SPECIAL CHILDREN AND SPECIAL CLASSES

5. BASIC-MOVEMENT PATTERS: LOCOMOTION AND VARIATIONS.

6. TUMBLING, REBOUND TUMBLING AND BODY AWARENESS ACTIVITIES

7. GAME THAT TEACH THINGS

8. AQUATICS-SWIMMING AND HAVING FUN


9. RHYTHM, DANCE AND MUSIC

10. BALLS AND OTHER MISSILES

11. FITNESS FOR FULL PARTICIPATION.


REQUIREMENTS OF COURSE


1. EACH STUDENT MUST ATTEND CLASS.

2. ALL OUTSIDE WORK FROM VARIOUS JOURNAL AND OTHER SOURCES ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN ON TIME.

3. EACH STUDENT WILL BE ASSIGNED TOPIC OR CHAPTERS TO REPORT ON IN CLASS.

4. STUDENTS MUST TAKE ALL EXAMINATION, INCLUDING FINAL EXAMINATION.
