The abbey church

On June 19, 2000 France issued a stamp on the abbey church of Ottmarsheim. The stamp is in landscape format (22 x 36) and printed in intaglio process. This church,The abbey church standing on the edge of the vast Harth forest, is known primarily for its church, the only vestige of Carolinian architecture in Alsace. Here a series of wall paintings dating from the 15th century can be seen. To the east of the central structure stands a small rectangular sanctuary; to the west a porch surmounted with a tribune is housed in the bell tower. It also contains a large two-span Gothic chapel built in the 16th century to the north of the apse.
