The abbey church |

On June 19,
2000 France issued a stamp on the abbey church of Ottmarsheim. The stamp is in landscape
format (22 x 36) and printed in intaglio process. This church, |

standing on the edge of the vast Harth forest, is
known primarily for its church, the only vestige of Carolinian architecture in Alsace.
Here a series of wall paintings dating from the 15th century can be seen. To the east of
the central structure stands a small rectangular sanctuary; to the west a porch surmounted
with a tribune is housed in the bell tower. It also contains a large two-span Gothic
chapel built in the 16th century to the north of the apse.
