I'm standing at the window,
the rain is coming down,
It's dark and oh so dreary
and depressing all around.

But somewhere in the distance,
I see a ray of light,
and through the darkened heavens
it's shining oh so bright.

Somewhere there is a rainbow,
I know it can be seen,
It's colors arching downward,
red, yellow, blue and green.

But from my lonely window,
the rainbow can't be found,
for all I see is raindrops,
steadily dropping down.

So turning from my window,
disappointed in my view,
maybe another rainbow,
in the future will be new.

But then a voice within me,
a soft and tender touch,
says, child just look around you,
I love you oh so much.

I walk into the darkness
and look into the clouds,
and suddenly a beauty
is shining all around.

The rainbow had been there
even though I didn't see,
and then I hear His voice
speaking silently to me.

He says, "I'm here my child
every day, I love you true
and though you may not see Me
I'm standing here with you.

"When darkness fills your days
and your life is filled with care,
just cause you can't see rainbows
doesn't mean that they're not there."

Thank you Patricia for your beautiful poem.  I seem to get lots of poems about rainbows.  Could it be because they represent God's promise to us?
