The power of a sign is remarkable. We use signs on a daily basis. Stop signs, yield signs, open or closed signs. These signs mean so much to us. There is one sign that should mean everything to us. This sign is the one that hung over Jesus' head as he hung on the cross. Pilate wrote a sign and put it on the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF JEWS. The sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek. Many of the people read the sign, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. The leading priests said to Pilate, "Don't write, 'The King of Jews.' But write, 'This man said, "I am the King of the Jews."'" Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written." (John 19:19-22) (M. Lucado, He Chose The Nails, p. 41) Do you think that Pilate would have written that sign if he knew the power behind those few words? You and I know that he would not. Pilate wrote the sign in the three languages as a mockery of Jesus. As to say, "see what happens to a Jewish king." Next quarter we will discuss what the sign over Jesus head meant to the two thieves. |

"It's humbling to compare the way we are with the way we ought to be." "Living for Christ gets better and better, but seldom gets any easier." "Broken lives surrendered to Christ learn how victory can be brought out of total defeat." "If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere." "The Bread of Life never becomes stale." (All copied from Catahoula Baptist Church Bulletin) Jesus said, "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world." "If the Lord fails me this time, It will be the first time."

People make many resolutions in the New Year. We vow to shed those extra pounds we seem to have gained the last year. We vow to work less and spend more time with our families. We vow to quit smoking, drinking, etc. You know what I mean. Why not vow to spend more time with God. You can spend time with your family with God. It's amazing how happy you can be. Material things only last so long, why not invest in your future. Accept Jesus as your Savior, his retirement package is OUT OF THIS WORLD! |
